Team Fortress 2 (TF2) is Valve’s follow-up to the successful Quake mod. It was released in late 2007 as a paid title, but went free-to-play recently. Animal Jam is a browser-based kids’ game developed by National Geographic. Children choose their avatar from 8 different animals and begin their adventures in the world of Jamaa. The game is centered on exploring the vast game world, playing the game’s numerous mini-games and buying newer, kitschier merchandise for their animal avatar. Kids also often engage in elaborate, creative roleplaying. Parents may wonder about educational content promised in the game’s ads. It’s there, but it’s not enforced, and kids can very well run around the game world without learning much about animals or geography. The game simply seems like a virtual world where children can learn much about online interactions (which are well-moderated) and trading instead – all very valuable skills, but it’s important that parents shouldn’t be deceived about the game being educational. It can be such, but is not necessarily so.

Wizard 101 is a colorful MMORPG designed for kids. There are seven classes which are actually different branches of magic the new wizard can choose from -- Fire, Ice, Storm, Myth, Life, Death, and Balance. The game world is humorous and filled with witty quests. Wizard 101 features parent accounts that allow parents to control their children�s accounts; for example, parents can disable incoming messages for their child's account. The combat is card-based and requires a lot of strategy as it�s important to get a well-balanced card deck. Altogether, Wizard 101 offers a great experience even for gaming veterans, but the paid features offer too much content for �pure Free2Play� to be viable. The game�s a great gift if your kids fancy Harry Potter.

Star 86 is a children’s MMO played in the browser. The game starts with the player creating her or his own cute avatar called a Dubble, which can be customized at any time. Creativity, especially musical creativity is emphasized in this game where players explore the galaxy of Star 86 in a starship, collecting souvenirs and usable music instruments all while making their own home in the game world. There are numerous planets in the galaxy to explore, each hosting its very own mini-game. Need For Speed World (NFS:W) is an MMO racing game, and part of the popular Need For Speed series. Real-life car models, power-ups, and a thrilling atmosphere with exciting game modes make NSF:W a truly rich experience for any racing fan. The graphics are stellar with fancy-looking reflections, detailed car models and shiny colors all over the place; there are some glitches, though, mainly connected with flickering car models. The game boasts an abundant player base as well as a sizable and detailed game world. As with all racing games, don’t expect the gameplay to be thrilling at all times — it can get repetitive, but that’s perhaps a pitfall of the genre itself.

DC Universe Online
DC Universe Online (DCUO) is a superhero-themed MMORPG, set in the DC universe which features heroes such as Batman, Superman, Green Lantern and the Flash. Featuring PvP and PvE game modes, the game sports numerous superheroes with in-depth character customization and fast-paced combat. DCUO is meticulously detailed and has up-to-date graphics. The cutscenes are top notch; so are voice actors and everything else that’s production-related. PvP, although a bit unbalanced, is great in the PS3 version. The PC version runs smoother, but combat is much slicker on the PS3. Upon reaching the level cap, players right now don’t have that much to do, but Sony is hard at work trying to make the game more dynamic with updates (though the DLC packs aren’t free).

Archlord
3D fantasy role playing game with a heavy focus on player versus player combat (on the way to becoming the supreme Archlord). While graphics, character detail, mounts, and combat animations are fantastic, the game world offers little in the way of player versus environment opportunity. Choose from three races: Human, Orc, and MoonElf with a few classes per race to choose from. Multi-classing is allowed. The most powerful (and perhaps the most popular) Race/Class combination is the MoonElf Elementalist, wielding more robust spells than the other race's magic-using counterparts. At release, the game was given some bad reviews but has since evolved their content, graphics, and gameplay through a series of revisions (and of course changed to the free to play model). If you have a hang-up on using click-to-move versus using the WASD keys, no worries: they offer both.

3D fantasy oriental RPG with focus on realistic martial arts. The reputation system is called Karma where your character gathers or loses it based on the outcomes of PVP battle. It is all about the Fu. Develop ordinary and mystical Kung Fu skills to triumph in battle. Start as a vagabond and quest until level twenty-five where you choose from one of six clans. Each clan has its own name for the one of four classes you can pick to specialize in: warrior (tank), healer, nuker (ranged), and hybrid (learn any skill). World of Warcraft
The game that set the standard for modern role playing games on the internet now lets you play for free until your character reaches level twenty. World of Warcraft is famous for its party instances and seamless landscapes, providing one of the richest player experiences that RPG games have to offer.
Earlier levels require the same repetitive actions (grinding) as other RPGs to help level up your character to get to the real fun of WOW -- entering dungeons and raids across the world of Azeroth in cooperation with fellow players.
Winged mounts are available to ferry you for a small fee, but you have to travel to those destinations first by foot before you can get there via the skies.

Classes have different roles in the game world of Azeroth, and if you’ve never played a massively multiplayer rpg before, you will quickly learn about the strengths of combining these roles for battling in groups. Tanks take the brunt of the damage from enemy attack, while damage dealers (both melee and from a distance) deliver their payloads. During the battle, healers make sure that comrades keep their health. More than half of the classes allow you to play multiple roles in party battle. Be sure to check out the class guide before hopping in so you get the kind of battle experience you are looking for.

One of the most accessible and detailed free-to-play MMORPGs out there. AoC is developed by Funcom, the masterminds behind the boundary breaking Anarchy Online. Amazing graphics even three years after release, a great number of quests (for the later levels, too) and epic lore that stays true to the original Conan books by Robert E. Howard. Four ‘archetype’ classes – priest, soldier, rogue, and mage, each of them having three sub-classes. A unique, hit-direction-based combat system that requires direct involvement from the player. Quest and skill-wise, the game does seem to aspire to be a ‘WoW clone’; however, AoC clearly beats WoW in two aspects: the soundtrack and the abundant amount of gore. Loads of PvP and PvE instances, with PvP being a real skills test due to the complex combat system.

A Mystical Land is a browser-based MMORPG that raises the bar for Facebook RPGs. Choose from four classes and set off to explore the vast game world. The game�s quests are dynamic, and NPC dialogue is quite funny; however, the real treat is the vast crafting/profession system � you can actually play the game without killing any mobs� and make a bunch of stuff in the process! Players can also get achievements and rewards for doing them. The game�s graphics are nice and cartoony, but there can be performance issues in the city. A Mystical Land is admittedly directed towards casual gamers, but the game world is engrossing and vivid enough to offer something for the more serious players, too.

Fantastically rich landscapes and highly developed quests in this fantasy role playing game -- at least at the earlier levels. Enter the world of Atreia where the Elyos and Asmodian races are battling for territory. Both races are flight-capable and your characters can achieve flight after level ten. There are four starting classes and six intricate crafting professions to choose from. There is a special type of arena called The Abyss where players from both factions can attempt to seize control over strongholds and defend them for more resources using a mix of player-versus-player and player-versus-environment tactics. There are plenty of instances for party assaults and even player-defined macros you can set up to customize your character�s combat. Make no mistake. You won�t be able to advance without PvP interactions, so if you are looking for a strictly PvE game, this might not be for you. The download is only a free trial, but well worth the time investment if for the visuals and excellent game mechanics alone.

Age of Wushu
Age of Wushu (AoW) is a fighting MMORPG with considerable depth to it. After a tiring two hour tutorial players choose their faction from 8 martial arts schools and try to make sense of what to do next. AoW is heavily inspired by Chinese architecture and culture, featuring vast and beautiful landscapes as well as intricately designed buildings. The fact that the game is thoughtfully developed shows through all the time, starting from the huge (though sometimes confusing) skill system (and the tremendous amounts of iffy translations for each skill). Age of Wushu sports numerous unique features, such as the absence of a leveling system, replaced by skill-based leveling instead. Players' characters become NPCs when logged out. You can patrol the streets while offline -- or you can get kidnapped as well! RPG fans will be captivated, but regular players can become confused and overwhelmed with AoW’s complexity and abundance of options.
