Epic Duel (ED) is a turn-based dueling game where you join one of two factions on planet Delta V and become a Tech Mage, a Bounty Hunter or a Mercenary, then train to acquire new weapons, participate in 1v1 and 2v2 combat and bring glory to your faction. ED offers plenty of variety for a Flash game—players can customize their characters well enough; skills are plentiful as are items and achievements. Matchmaking is quick and, even though ED doesn't have a tutorial, it’s easy to grasp. 2v2 battles are the game’s salt—highly addictive, plus they do require some knowledge of both your opponents’ and your own skills. That being said, ED is definitely a game to be played in short bursts, otherwise it gets repetitive because there are only two game modes. The in-game currency gives advantages to those who pay. However, as there’s always something to do in the ample game world, and as the matchmaking is that simple… logging in and fighting for a bit is just too easy to find serious fault with this game.

There are a number of factions, all of which have unique card decks and racial strengths and weaknesses. The skill level is Elo-based, which makes finding matched opponents a lot easier. A fun tutorial takes you through the basics, and sets you right off to explore the world where there’s certainly a lot to explore.

The action taking place in a galaxy called New Eden. Players pick from five races and team up in Corporations -- corps for short -- to gain dominance with their starships in breathtaking, complex battles. The graphics are stellar and, along with game content, have been updated regularly since Eves 2003 release. Eve is a second life to many, and with reason. Players get by with piracy, manufacturing, exploration, combat, and more -- to each his own. Eve Online has all the trappings of a typical MMORPG, but it's also much more -- its actually one of the richest online gaming experiences nowadays. Before you start, however, know this: the learning curve is an steep; the game is PvP-centric; and, finally, its nearly impossible to enjoy Eve without social encounters.

EverQuest, the groundbreaking MMORPG developed by Sony Online Entertainment, was first released in 1999 and has since undergone significant changes, including 19 expansions and a gradual shift towards a free-to-play game model. The game boasts an impressive total of 16 classes and 16 races within a continuously expanding game world. The graphics are, naturally, quite outdated (even though they’ve been constantly updated since 1999), but the new, reworked UI sometimes causes complaints. PvP seems off-balance as well, but that’s not what EverQuest is about – as the name implies. There’s a depth to this game few can surpass – the world is full of secrets, and exploring it promises much fun; the PvE is on par with most pay-to-play titles; the community is inviting and helpful. Definitely try it if you consider yourself an RPG lover.

Everquest II is a MMORPG developed by Sony Online Entertainment. It was released back in 2004 and went free-to-play in 2010. The game offers an immersive experience with huge gameplay variety – 20 races and 25 classes to choose from, and expansion packs bring even more variety. The fantasy-themed story, set in a universe parallel to the original EverQuest, flows smoothly and gives the player a sense of direction. NPCs are sometimes elaborately scripted, surprising players in many different ways. The fun crafting system won’t disappoint. Everquest 2 is definitely developed with thoroughness and with care. Although the graphics and animation haven’t aged well, the interface is very convenient and the soundtrack leaves no more do be desired. Combat lacks in speed, but PvE and general gameplay doesn’t disappoint with about 6000 quests available to those who have unlocked the whole game world with a subscription. Definitely a must-try for any MMORPG fan.

Forge of Empires is a browser-based strategy MMO. Players take hold of a stone age settlement and help their people progress through the ages by managing their city, producing troops and gathering resources all while keeping the populace happy; this is like a slower version of Age of Empires. The game has a nice UI and the campaign flows smoothly. Graphics are well-detailed and together with the advisers fit in with the players current era. The turn-based combat system reminds one of Heroes of Might and Magic, which is a good thing here. PvP isnt complex at all. Defending armies cant be controlled so PvP basically becomes an army pitch with only the attacker being able to play smart. The game is very promising at the early levels, but as the players progress it becomes clear that you have to pay to achieve something.

The game is pretty interesting in the beginning, mostly because the story unfolds quite masterfully. Mid-game is dedicated to finding a good alliance and learning PvP, but in the late game players inadvertently find themselves without much to do. While Fortuna has its good moments, it simply lacks engaging features to keep the players attention. Plus you might get a quite valid feeling that the game doesnt do justice to non-paying members.

Free Jack is a parkour racing MMO. Players compete with each other to the finish line, overcoming different obstacles on the way. Sort of like an online version of Mirrors Edge with lots of Mario Kart. During runs, players employ peculiar power-ups like kisses and garbage cans to set their enemies back. The game sports four classes two male and two female with unique abilities and characteristics. Free Jack has both solo and team matchups and theyre all very exciting. Matchmaking, which is very important for arcade games like these, is well-balanced -- youll seldom find games where you finish light years behind the pack. Vibrant and colorful environments plus characters with an anime feel make the game look and feel great. Free Jack is, at its best, an engrossing and addictive experience but play it for too long and the lack of variety can wear on. The fun will last longer if you enjoy it with moderation.

Ghost Recon Online (GRO) is an MMO tactical shooter developed by Ubisoft. It features three classes – Assault, Recon and Specialist -- that are defined by their game-changing abilities. There currently aren’t that many maps available, but the game is updated regularly and the graphics are nice if a bit outdated. The gameplay is slow, tactical and immensely fun with short bursts of intense action in the two available game modes. GRO is very much a team game, and lone wolfs are not only ineffective, but can jeopardize the success of the whole team. Ubisoft can sometimes disappoint with their interpretation of the free-to-play model, but that’s not the case here. Yes, grenades can only be bought for credits, but one can acquire them quite easily, plus weapon purchases are permanent.

Guild Wars 2 is ArenaNet and NCSoft's sequel MMORPG to 2005's highly acclaimed Guild Wars online game. Set in the world of Tyria, a land of fantastical creatures and mysterious magicks, Guild Wars 2 takes place 250 years after the first installment, in a tumultuous period when the Elder Dragons have begun their reawakening. Together with the members of Destiny's Edge, a group of powerful adventurers, the player must face the incoming onslaught of the Elder Dragons and their hordes, and save Tyria from the brink of destruction. Guild Wars 2 features five playable races and nine distinct classes (professions) at character creation. There are no dedicated healer professions in the game, so players are encouraged to mix their party compositions to find the most suitable setup for an encounter. Combat in Guild Wars 2 is fast-paced, with an action-oriented slant. Players can evade attacks using a built-in dodge mechanic. Skills are profession-based and weapon-specific, though, players can switch to an alternate weapon during combat to access a different skill set. Players only have a limited number of skill slots, which is a refreshing change from the usual "skill pianos" (multiple hotkey bars) common in full-blown MMORPGs. PvE content is story-driven, with the player going through the story in their own unique way via the "Personal Story" system. Zones have timed "Dynamic Events" where players cooperate to complete specific objectives for rewards. World bosses spawn in certain maps as well, rewarding players with loot for a successful battle. Guild Wars 2's PvP comes in two forms - Structured PvP and World VS World. Structured PvP has different match types and gives participants equal access to top level equipment and skills to even the playing field. World VS World is an ongoing battle between three game servers that takes place in one massive battleground with multiple objectives. Overall, you can't go wrong in choosing to play Guild Wars 2. It's free to play (but you'll have to shell out cash to access the latest expansion content), has meaningful, story-driven PvE content and highly competitive PvP modes. It's very polished in all aspects and has a stable community of players in its following. Don't hesitate to give it a try if you're looking for a quality MMORPG that's worthy of your time and money.
