HearthStone is a collectible card game by Blizzard. It’s set in the Warcraft universe. Players compete with the AI and real enemies with their deck of cards, striving to acquire better ones and build their deck. Players choose from nine classes that can be found in the company’s famous MMORPG. Its lore blends well with World of Warcraft and of course the title is well-polished like most Blizzard titles are, featuring great graphics, an easy-to-use interface and unique sounds for each card. The gameplay is simple yet allows for all sorts of tactics and mind games--it’s definitely a lot more exciting than that of most similar titles. HearthStone has an arena mode where players compete for cards and gold in a streak until three losses. Legendary cards are hard to come by, and although these can be a game-changer, acquiring them is much more difficult than buying $20 worth of card packs. HearthStone has a lot of staying power, considering its polish and the well-established lore. It’s definitely not of the ‘pay-to-win’ type and it, like all good titles, has simple ground rules that lead to complex scenarios; winning games in HearthStone requires, above all, skill and dedication.

Heroes in the Sky is a dogfighting MMO, set in World War II. Choose from two factions (Allies and Axis) that engage in faction battles -- aka Occupational Wars -- and level up to unlock new gear. The game features over 70 flyable planes and numerous missions for players of all levels. The combat is fast-paced and fun, but that doesnt take away much from strategy. Heroes in the Sky has four plane types that spice up the gameplay with extra tactics. For example, bombers can bomb ground targets, but gunners can heal and revive fallen allies, etc. There are also numerous events for competitive players. Players can customize their planes and upgrade them thus, the game features something of a crafting system. The only downside is the rather large PvP bonuses for players who purchase extra gear.

Play Illyriad now!Imperia Online
Fancy yourself a great emperor of a thriving civilization? Or maybe a pillaging warlord, leading your legions to glorious battles? Then Imperia Online is right up your alley. Imperia Online is a browser-based, strategic empire builder MMO set in the Medieval period. You are the ruler of a small province, tasked to develop its economic and military might. Practically, like in most empire building games, that means improving your province's infrastructure over time, all for the sake of building up your military. To fully participate in global warfare and politics, the game encourages you to join player-run alliances. The gameplay doesn't stray much from the usual formula of online empire builder games, so if you're a veteran of that genre, Imperia Online won't be too much of an unfamiliar territory to cover. For the newbie, the lengthy tutorial does a thorough job of introducing the core gameplay systems. Graphically, there's not much to look at, but the visuals definitely have a medieval atmosphere to them. The interface can get overwhelming for a new player, though. Casual players will find little use for the game's cash shop offerings, but hardcore gamers will definitely need to invest some money if they want to play at a competitive level. That has always been the case for games like this. As far as modern MMOs are concerned, Imperia Online isn't a ground-breaking or stand-out game. It's a decently polished empire builder, though, and it's still going strong 10 years after it launched.

Infinity Wars is a MMO collectible card game (CCG) that was crowd funded via Kickstarter. As far as the game format goes, IW has the standard trappings of a CCG, offering seven card decks, each of a distinct faction and requiring a distinct play style. It features several innovative card game mechanics that make it stand out from the pack. Furthermore, IW boasts a single player mode that eases players into the games intricacies that can take quite some time to masterhowever, the fact that theyre there makes it much more interesting in the long run. The combat is powered by a zone system where you have to be careful to balance and move the cards through different zones, featuring a command zone where you can place cards to start the game with. Lastly theres a morale stat that depletes as cards are destroyed, thus discouraging mindless burning of cards. Infinity Wars is a better CCG than most, some say even better than Hearthstone. It looks and plays great with vibrant card animations that come alive in 3D. Its mechanics ensure that IW has a staying power, and overall the game can certainly be deemed a success, especially given that the developers arent a billion-dollar company.

The game's graphics aren't cutting edge, but sometimes you can witness true beauty hidden in its isometric tiles and especially in the creative and sometimes bizarre player-made quests.

Kings and Legends is a card trading game with some city building elements. Its played in the browser. Players start with a measly deck and try getting new, better cards to duke their opponents with. Four classes and card types add greatly to the games diversityand so does the lane fighting system. Theres also a storyline that can keep you interested, especially since you can get new cards in story-related PvE. The games city building aspect is important as it can help you get better cards. Group battles are available as well in addition to regular PvP card duels. Each player has a hero that can use skills, and the game is over once one of the heroes is dead. The game manages to mix RPG, strategy and card game elements into one coherent mass. High-level players will have to compete for godlike cards, which are very rare unless bought.

The main emphasis here is on competition as servers last for up to 9 months until a winner surfaces. If youre lucky you can loot barbarian camps and cash in rare items. Alliances are allowed and encouraged but at a certain point youll be left to your own devices. Paying players will have much better odds to score some treasure and perchance even battle for the grand prize. KingsAge is a strategy MMO set in medieval times. Players take control of a village, expand, form an army, and gain loyal followers to make a name for themselves in the world. This strategy plays similarly to Ikariam or Tribal Wars, but KingsAge doesn’t seem nearly as populated, and the beginning of the game feels somewhat slow. Just like in the games mentioned, players can hold quite a number of villages -- the management of which can get a little time consuming. To do the game justice, however, it should be noted that KingsAge, with all its weaknesses, is a fun war strategy where collaboration (and other, more violent forms of interaction) with other players becomes more rewarding past the slow start.

Play Knight Online now!Knight's Fable
Knight’s Fable is a browser-based MMORPG set in an anime-inspired fantasy world. It features a rich game world and a rather casual gameplay. The game features four classes, two for each sex, but the character can be changed later on while keeping the stats. Knight’s Fable requires the player to click for quests and skill upgrades (as well as the various side activities like fishing, clearing dungeons, and escorting cargo), but the rest of the game happens automatically. Most of the player’s success is based on the Battle Rating, gained by leveling up or finding/enchanting equipment. The story, once it eases out of the numerous damsel-in-distress scenarios, actually captivates and is light enough not to overwhelm. Of course social features like pets, parties and the likes are featured here as well. Even though one might deem Knight’s Fable to be a needless addition to a vast array of similar games, it’s actually better than most of the pack. The story is decent, the game doesn’t push you to buy anything, and last but not least there’s just an abundance of things to do.

League of Angels (LoA) is a browser-based fantasy MMORPG with turn-based combat and ridiculously beautiful artwork. Players choose from one of two classes and walk about to get to know the games mechanics and the eclectic lore of the League of Angels world, helping angels regain their former glory by setting them free from the dark forces that haunt them. The freed angels become valuable battle companions. Theres an abundance of things to do (crafting, quests, dungeons and PvP), and although the combat cannot be controlled in the battlefield, a good formation can beat a stronger opponent. At later levels, however, players may find that they cannot do much daily besides two or three quests, all due to an annoying stamina system. For what its worth, LoA also sports detestable amounts of fan service. On the one hand, LoA plays just like Wartune and similar titles, the likes of which have sprung up like mushrooms after heavy rainfall; on the other, it has some interesting features like the boss board games. Plus the PvP is quite exciting, as are the graphics. LoA might very well prove to be a disappointment, but it does have its strong points.
