Need for Speed World

Need for Speed World

Need For Speed World (NFS:W) is an MMO racing game, and part of the popular Need For Speed series. Real-life car models, power-ups, and a thrilling atmosphere with exciting game modes make NSF:W a truly rich experience for any racing fan. The graphics are stellar with fancy-looking reflections, detailed car models and shiny colors all over the place; there are some glitches, though, mainly connected with flickering car models. The game boasts an abundant player base as well as a sizable and detailed game world. As with all racing games, don’t expect the gameplay to be thrilling at all times — it can get repetitive, but that’s perhaps a pitfall of the genre itself.

Neverwinter

Neverwinter

Neverwinter is a hack-n-slash MMORPG set in the cult-classic Neverwinter Nights universe. The game sports five (quite generic) classes, many more professions and impressive freedom in character customization. Common RPG features such as companions, grinding-based quests and numerous instances are to be found here. They offer little that's unique but are solidly implemented. Its true that fans of Neverwinter Nights are likely to be disappointed no great lore and story immersion above the bare minimum here but the Neverwinter MMORPG is definitely worth trying. Despite its flaws one can very well call it a great hack-n-slash game: impeccable combat, nice graphics and a game-changer called the Foundry, an interface where players can create their own adventures for others to play and rate them.

NosTale is a fantasy MMORPG with flashy anime graphics. There are four character classes – adventurer (default), swordsman, archer, and sorcerer; you can only select a class when you reach level 15. NosTale isn’t a particularly catchy tale, but quests add to the story, unlike in so many other games. The game has an awesome pet system – you can capture mobs when they are down to low HP, level together with them, and use them in combat. You can build your own house, buy furniture, and invite friends to visit. Combat in NosTale is rather uneventful; PvP is interesting, though. If you like games with a style akin to that of Ragnarok, you’ll like NosTale.

Path of Exile

Path of Exile

Path of Exile (PoE) is an action RPG similar to Diablo II. It was pronounced game of the year by Gamespot and RPG of the year by IGN in 2013.

PoE is staggeringly simple in terms of gameplay yet amazingly complex as far as the item and skill systems go. Players choose from six classes, unlocking a seventh one after they’ve played the game through on normal difficulty, and rather mold than ‘build’ their character as the game unfolds. The dark and cryptic backstory of the Wraeclast world slips by all but unnoticed while players hack their way through hordes of undead; once you stop to take a breather, however, it hits you with all the jaw-dropping complexity of the world, but the intricate skill system and item-based economy make room for endless variety in terms of how you look and play. Potions regenerate over time, tweaking the already immersive combat a bit further.

To top all that, PoE features a cash shop that only houses items that have a cosmetic effect, yet somehow the developers are turning a profit. Definitely try PoE if you’ve heard of Diablo or have played and liked a hack’n’slash title.

The user interface is quick to grasp and intuitive. There are loads of quests, and many of them are related to your character’s development; for example, ‘spiritual cultivation’ quests allow you to learn skills you wouldn’t be able to learn otherwise. The game has an in-game quest helper in case you get stuck with a quest. Pirate 101

Pirate 101

Pirate 101 (P101) is a family-friendly MMORPG by the developers of Wizard 101. It’s set in a colorful and lively steampunk-ish universe that’s similar to the company’s wizard-themed game.

After an intro that plots the life story of the player’s character, s/he is plunged into the game, guided by impeccably-voiced, genuinely funny pirates and driven forward through a series of quests. The slowly-paced gameplay consists mostly of wandering, fighting monsters and, the icing of the cake, participating in airship battles. The fights are turn-based, but ship shootouts happen in real time, offering intense thrills but encouraging faster decision-making, not necessarily more thinking.

Despite P101’s focus on an audience of children (10+ rating), players of all ages can find something of value here. Parents can control kids’ chat access, but adults have access to 18+ channels. This vibrant game offers many perks, but the cash shop gives a real edge to paying players, and keep in mind that P101 is free only during the opening chapters.

Planet Arkadia has a rich history and many dangerous zones populated by the first inhabitants, the Oratan, who definitely aren’t well-disposed toward human colonists. The game has a steep learning curve and leveling is skill-based like in Elder Scrolls. The Entropia Universe can be discouraging for newcomers, especially non-paying ones. However, the game’s social features, the vast and beautiful world, the great detail and community spirit make playing Planet Arkadia a remarkable experience – if you’re prepared to invest quite some time (and perhaps a bit of money) in it.

Planet Calypso is the oldest planet of the Entropia Universe, an MMORPG with a cash-based economy. There are four more planets in the Entropia Universe, all connected with space travel. Players progress through the game by trying to increase their moneymaking efficiency. The game has a steep learning curve. Leveling is skill-based and slow. Activities for making money range from sweat gathering to crafting, mining and plastic surgery you name it. Quests have been implemented to give players a sense of having a goal in the game, but the game lacks any story-related immersion whatsoever (this is counterbalanced with the elaborate social system). The fact that the games economy is pegged to real-life currency has its ups and downs: you have to pay up if you dont want to gather sweat until you can afford beginning hunting gear. Planet Calypso should be avoided by people prone to gambling.

Although player and weapon models might seem generic, the environment is well-detailed and overall the game looks great (an up-to-date computer, however, is required to enjoy Planetside 2 without lag). Royal Quest

Royal Quest

Royal Quest is a fantasy-themed MMORPG similar to Ragnarok Online. Its developed by the people behind Space Rangers and King's Bounty.

Players set off on a colorful adventure in the world of Aura, choosing from four classes with two sub-classes each, selected when the player reaches level 20. The game gets quite challenging at later levels, to the point where a single monster can easily take the player out. To counter that, theres a cool guild system where guilds level up as well, bestowing various bonuses on their members. Theres also open-world PvP where you get some of the slain enemys loot. Sideline activities like herb gathering, crafting and the likes are abundant, and there are fun PvP modes like castle sieging to be found in Royal Quest. The combat strongly echoes that of Ragnarok Online, and thats of course both a good and a bad thing, depending on whether you enjoyed that game.

Royal Quest definitely has many good things going for it: the cash shop seems fair; the actual world is beautiful even if the mobs dont stand out as particularly unique, and the social features are implemented with a degree of originality. However, it does tend to get tedious in later levels, and for the game having quest in its name, the quests are surprisingly uninspired. Better team up with someone or prepare to be bored, sooner or later.

Skyforge

Skyforge

The world of Aelion is under siege by otherworldly forces. The planet, unparalleled in beauty and wonder, was once protected by Aeli, a benevolent greater god. His mysterious disappearance has left Aelion vulnerable to incursion from savage alien invaders. Left with no choice, the followers of Aeli, lesser gods and immortals, have banded together to defend their homeland. You are one of those immortals, blessed with incredible powers beyond any mortal being. It is your destiny to protect Aelion and eventually become a god in the process.

Skyforge is an action-oriented, sci-fi 3D MMORPG developed by Mail.ru's Allods Team and Obsidian Entertainment. The game sports a third person camera view and features swift and visceral combat. New players start the game by choosing one of the three starter classes. An additional ten classes can be unlocked based on the player's progression. Players can freely switch between available classes, eliminating the need to make multiple alt characters.

Progression in Skyforge follows a non-traditional route as there are no levels and experience points. Instead, players improve their character and class by advancing through stat and skill increasing "node grids" similar to that of Path of Exile's skill tree and console game Final Fantasy X's Sphere Grid system. Unlocking these nodes requires resources acquired from quests and dungeons. PvP modes – FFA, Team Deathmatch, Capture the Flag and Payload Race – also reward resources. Equipment is also a big factor, with the best gear dropping in harder instances and raid encounters. A seasoned immortal eventually gains worshippers and temples in their honor, and these provide stat boosts as well. The combination of these elements is the player's Prestige rating, which determines their potential strength and the content they can access.

All in all, Skyforge is an enjoyable combat-oriented 3D MMORPG with considerable polish and depth. The graphics and music are a big plus as well, though, sometimes optimization issues abound. The game's weekly resource caps can be a major turn-off to hardcore players, though.

Star Conflict

Star Conflict

Star Conflict, in a nutshell, can be best described as World of Tanks in space. This space game shares a lot of similarities in game mechanics, features, and progression with the popular tank brawler. If you're familiar with World of Tanks, then you'll feel right at home in Star Conflict.

Instead of commandeering tanks from humanity's bygone ages of warfare and destruction, players get to pilot high-tech space-faring battleships... for more warfare and destruction. Players get to choose their faction and sub-faction at the start of the game, which will determine their initial ship choices and starting missions. There's a ton of ship choices, with varying roles in team play, and you'll have to slog through the grind to unlock them and their upgrade modules.

Combat is fairly paced and fluid, with multiple PvE and PvP modes providing plenty of gameplay variety. For the more competitive player, there's Guild vs Guild warfare where clanners get to vie for space territory.

Like World of Tanks, Star Citizen can get extremely grindy, especially when you're unlocking newer, more advanced ships and upgrades. Some of that grind, you can quickly alleviate by investing in the game's cash shop, if you're willing to sink in some real life moolah.

Players are given a starship of their own and, after a brief introduction, they start completing ground missions and space missions (the former are far more interesting) to gain experience and new skills. Visually, the game is beautiful and its story is appealing even to players new to Star Trek. Missions become repetitive as the player levels up, but social features help in overcoming the stale gameplay. Swordsman Online

Swordsman Online is a martial arts MMORPG by Perfect World. It features a great variety of classes and a game world based on a popular novel by Louis Cha.

Players can customize their character in great depth, and the ten available classes make for an endless variety in character builds (but not looks, sadly). The fun, cutscene-laden story takes the player through the first 25 levels in a breeze. Open-world PvP kicks in at level 30, and theres quite some discrepancy between the abilities of paying and non-paying members. However, the combat itself is utterly captivating, with guild PvP instances and solo dungeons. Some instances have their stats normalized, encouraging skill-based gameplaybut only to an extent. As for the presentation, Swordsman Online excels with beautiful aesthetics reminiscent of anime/manga. The audio presentation you will love or hate as it features a lot of Chinese traditional music.

Swordsman online is definitely a well-polished title. It offers nothing particularly unique, but everything seems just finely executed, especially the combat. The main complaints are related to the open-world PvP and the cash shop, but finding a good guild can mitigate some of these.

Spanning diverse real-world and mythical locations like Seoul, London and the esoteric Agartha, TSW weaves together fiction and fact to create an experience reminiscent of legendary titles like Deus Ex. TSW features many challengesquest clues have to be googled; many missions require stealth and planning; the richly detailed locations have to be explored detective-style. The skill system stands out in that it doesnt have levels, and much good can be said about the sheer subtlety and the noir atmosphere of the game world. Bottom line, TSW is quite unique in many respects. Note, howeverthe combat is rather dull, and quests become boring late in the game.

Trove

Trove is a voxel-based sandbox MMORPG released by Trion Worlds, the developers of the popular free-to-play MMORPG RIFT. Trove builds on the Minecraft formula by focusing more on combat, progression, and exploration. Trove also features procedurally-generated worlds, so each zone is unique in layout and content.

There are currently fifteen unique classes available for players to choose during character creation. The selection covers melee and ranged classes, each with their own physical and magical damage dealing abilities. Players can switch between classes (which have individual levels) provided they've unlocked them beforehand.

Trove's gameplay is typical of any level progression-based 3D MMORPG. Players defeat monsters to gain experience, loot, and resources for item crafting and building. Weapon drops have randomized stats and rarity depending on zone difficulty, so players looking to optimize their character will have to spend more time grinding the perfect arsenal. Combat is simple hack-and-slash, and while easy, it can get quite monotonous after a while. PvP combat is available in the form of a battle arena where players can duke it out for fame and rewards.

For creative home builders, the game has a multitude of blocks and doodads that can be used to create the ultimate player fortress. Some of the building materials are only available from the higher difficulty zones, so progressing through content is still crucial to the experience.

Overall, Trove is a pleasant, polished voxel game for those looking for a different spin to the tried-and-tested Minecraft formula. Give it a whirl if you're up for some voxel-based action with the standard conventions of an MMORPG.

Warframes are, as it was said, ninja suits. Each of these has special abilities that define the wearers combat role. Warframe sports huge computer-generated levels that are best played through in co-op. Players can craft items by purchasing blueprints and finding their components, or alternatively buy the weapons and warframes for hard cash.

You should probably try Warframe. Despite that many condemn the slow pace of acquiring new gear (as well as its exorbitant pricing), the gameplay more than makes up for it. Theres just something strangely addictive and adrenaline-pumping in this game, even if it can be unappealing on paper.

Wizard 101

Wizard 101

Wizard 101 is a colorful MMORPG designed for kids. There are seven classes which are actually different branches of magic the new wizard can choose from -- Fire, Ice, Storm, Myth, Life, Death, and Balance. The game world is humorous and filled with witty quests. Wizard 101 features parent accounts that allow parents to control their childrens accounts; for example, parents can disable incoming messages for their child's account. The combat is card-based and requires a lot of strategy as its important to get a well-balanced card deck. Altogether, Wizard 101 offers a great experience even for gaming veterans, but the paid features offer too much content for pure Free2Play to be viable. The games a great gift if your kids fancy Harry Potter.

World of Warcraft

World of Warcraft

The game that set the standard for modern role playing games on the internet now lets you play for free until your character reaches level twenty. World of Warcraft is famous for its party instances and seamless landscapes, providing one of the richest player experiences that RPG games have to offer.

Earlier levels require the same repetitive actions (grinding) as other RPGs to help level up your character to get to the real fun of WOW -- entering dungeons and raids across the world of Azeroth in cooperation with fellow players.

Winged mounts are available to ferry you for a small fee, but you have to travel to those destinations first by foot before you can get there via the skies.

Select from fifteen different professions. Whatever profession you choose, your goods will pay off quickly in useful items or currency from online auctions.

You have ten classes to choose from when creating a character (including the newly created Death Knight available after the release of the Cataclysm expansion). Classes have different roles in the game world of Azeroth, and if you’ve never played a massively multiplayer rpg before, you will quickly learn about the strengths of combining these roles for battling in groups. Tanks take the brunt of the damage from enemy attack, while damage dealers (both melee and from a distance) deliver their payloads. During the battle, healers make sure that comrades keep their health. More than half of the classes allow you to play multiple roles in party battle. Be sure to check out the class guide before hopping in so you get the kind of battle experience you are looking for.

World of Warplanes

World of Warplanes

World of Warplanes (WoW) is a WWII dogfighting title from the developers of World of Tanks. The basic gist of WoW is bringing World of Tanks into the sky. The featured airplanes are historically accurate, as are their upgrades. User experience is on par with today’s standards, sporting upgrade/setup presets and other features that ease newcomers into the game. There are many options for customization and great depth of gameplay dynamics – for example, a plane flies very differently when equipped with machine guns instead of bombs. The graphics are nice with attention given to detail both in the landscapes and the planes. There is occasional lag, however.
