SD Gundam Capsule Fighter
40 years after the release of the Mobile Suit Gundam anime, it was merely a matter of time until someone created this game. SD Gundam Capsule Fighter is a MMO third-person-shooter based on the original series. There are over 350 mobile units available in the game. All of them can be customized and upgraded, plus custom Gundam units can be created by combining blueprints. The game sports an engaging, arcade-like combat system which is made a bit more complex by introducing three unit types. Players can battle either in solo quests or massive PvP arenas, with four PvP modes being available in over 50 different locations. The graphics aren’t outstanding but at least have a unique look and keep the game's footprint small. As with many OGPlanet titles a tendency can be seen towards ‘pay to win’ gameplay, but at the very least playing is still fun for non-paying members.

Shadowbound
Shadowbound is a browser-based MMORPG by R2Games. It has a casual touch, meaning most of the game can be played through automatically. Players choose a male or female character, having picked their character class from the holy trinity of RPGs—Mage, Warrior, Hunter (Archer)—and enter the colorful world of Shadow bound. Players can hire mercenaries and later on can be accompanied by powerful guardians. PvP opens at level 31, featuring 3v3 and 8v8 arenas with... automatic combat. Players supplement their Battle Rating – the main measure of success – with gear and talismans, the acquisition of which is quite fun. There are many things to do ‘on the side’ as well: players engage in trivia games, and if not successful they’re turned into an alpaca; the social aspects are well-developed; and overall there’s just a lot to do in Shadowbound. The interface can get cluttered at times, but on the flip side there’s a button to remove player models from the screen. Shadowbound features solid performance throughout, and if not for titles like Wartune, it could be seen as the game that reaches closest to the Platonic ideal of the genre. The casual gamer will find nothing particularly unique in Shadowbound, but nothing particularly disappointing as well.

Shaiya
Shaiya is a fantasy-themed MMORPG set in a world where two factions -- the Alliance of Light and the Union of Fury � battle tirelessly for control over the world. Each faction has two races and three classes to choose from. There�s a rather large skill system; even on lower levels players will have plenty of skills to use. The servers are densely populated, and the world offers a great number of quests and PvP opportunities. Shaiya has a dark, somewhat cryptic atmosphere, and the graphics aren�t bad at all. What sets Shaiya apart is the character leveling: players are able to select their leveling pace at character creation. Players with faster leveling will have weaker characters in the end, but this feature ensures that casual gamers will have fun playing Shaiya, too.

Shards of Dreams
Browser-based massively multplayer RPG. Adventure in a large game world which looks and feels very similar to Diablo. You have to click to move (no arrows or W-A-S-D option). There are warrior, thief, priest, and magician classes with three sub-clases or Schools each to choose from. Join groups of up to five players for dungeon instances or fly solo. Plenty of player versus environment content. After level ten you are presented with the option to join either the Empire or Wasteland factions. There is also an optional client download available if you don’t feel like playing in the browser.

Shards of the Dreams
A browser-based MMORPG, Shards of the Dreams (SOD) takes players to a fantasy world, which they can explore from an isometric perspective. Choose from two factions (surprisingly, "the empire" is the good side in this game) as well as four classes, complete engaging quests, compete in instances, engage in PvP and try to get better gear. The game is strikingly similar to some well-known titles, with perhaps Diablo and Ultima Online being the most obvious examples. That is not to say that SOD has no merits of its own. The developers have done their best to make quests more diverse than in similar games, and the graphics have a special feeling to them as well. There is, however, very little information available about many of the game’s features, such as crafting, PvP and dungeons.

Shikihime Garden
Shikihime Garden is a Flash gardening slash card deck building game with cutesy anime cards and a lot of casual stuff to do out of battle. It can be described as a crossover between Tamagochi and a generic trading card game. In Shikihime Garden, cards are not just some abstract monsters in your deck—they’re living creatures, called Shikihime (mostly female anime characters), that live in your garden. This creates some sort of attachment to your card deck, because as you create your garden the Shikihime interact and spar with one another, munching down rice balls to get well after a tough fight. The fights themselves are rather monotonous, and even though this is a card game there are no battle animations, or strategies for that matter. Building your deck carefully is important, however. Players get to explore a colorful world and tinker around with cards, combining lesser cards to acquire stronger ones. To top it off, there are social features, like guilds and ‘check out my garden’ exchanges as well. Shikihime Garden can be quite a treat to the casual player. This game was designed thoughtfully, and even though progress is slow, the weird combination somehow manages to create an experience that’s captivating and fun even in the long run.

Siegelord
Siegelord is a MMO Strategy with RPG elements. It’s set in a medieval fantasy universe where the player’s kingdom has come under attack. It’s up to you to fend off the attacks and expand at the same time. There are three factions to choose from, and they all have some vaguely unique characteristics. Combat can be controlled, and, although having more troops is what usually counts, strategy can in fact make it or break it during battle. PvP, an integral part of the game, opens up pretty late, but you’ll be kept busy with instances and quests until you can find some real enemies. Battles are faction-based. As far as production value goes, Siegelord looks and feels and plays great. There’s even a community radio, which accepts players’ requests. Siegelord is definitely trying to do something unique, and even though the game doesn’t succeed at some things—like the rather hazy storyline or the mindless clickety-click-click of the early-to-mid game—it’s definitely a refreshing title you’re likely to enjoy.

The world of Aelion is under siege by otherworldly forces. The planet, unparalleled in beauty and wonder, was once protected by Aeli, a benevolent greater god. His mysterious disappearance has left Aelion vulnerable to incursion from savage alien invaders. Left with no choice, the followers of Aeli, lesser gods and immortals, have banded together to defend their homeland. You are one of those immortals, blessed with incredible powers beyond any mortal being. It is your destiny to protect Aelion and eventually become a god in the process. Skyforge is an action-oriented, sci-fi 3D MMORPG developed by Mail.ru's Allods Team and Obsidian Entertainment. The game sports a third person camera view and features swift and visceral combat. New players start the game by choosing one of the three starter classes. An additional ten classes can be unlocked based on the player's progression. Players can freely switch between available classes, eliminating the need to make multiple alt characters. Progression in Skyforge follows a non-traditional route as there are no levels and experience points. Instead, players improve their character and class by advancing through stat and skill increasing "node grids" similar to that of Path of Exile's skill tree and console game Final Fantasy X's Sphere Grid system. Unlocking these nodes requires resources acquired from quests and dungeons. PvP modes – FFA, Team Deathmatch, Capture the Flag and Payload Race – also reward resources. Equipment is also a big factor, with the best gear dropping in harder instances and raid encounters. A seasoned immortal eventually gains worshippers and temples in their honor, and these provide stat boosts as well. The combination of these elements is the player's Prestige rating, which determines their potential strength and the content they can access. All in all, Skyforge is an enjoyable combat-oriented 3D MMORPG with considerable polish and depth. The graphics and music are a big plus as well, though, sometimes optimization issues abound. The game's weekly resource caps can be a major turn-off to hardcore players, though.

Soldiers Inc.
Soldiers Inc. is a military strategy MMO, played in the browser. It was developed by the same people behind Total Domination, a strikingly similar title. Soldiers Inc. plays quite like your average strategy MMO. Set in Africa of the turbulent year of 2019, the game has players start off with a square base, build it up, produce units and eventually wage war against other players or NPCs. The soundtrack fits the game perfectly, and the voice acting beats most Facebook titles, as does Mr. Black, the player’s cryptic and slightly menacing advisor. Largely the decision to skip or try this game depends on whether you value these kinds of paraphernalia, because otherwise there’s not much to discuss: it’s all been seen before, and too common to be interesting, at least to the veterans of the genre. Battles proceed as statistics, and are not visual; players form alliances for mutual protection; and so on. To the credit of the developers, there are bi-monthly events where players can amass premium currency without paying, but overall the game falls into the ‘pay to win’ spectrum of F2P games. Soldiers Inc. is solid overall, but the standards for similar games have risen too much for it to keep up.

Soul of Guardian
Soul of Guardian (SoG) is a browser-based MMORPG with a touch of fantasy. Players pick from four classes – blade warrior, dagger assassin, hammer judge, spear guard – and complete quests, participate in events, acquire pets as well as new gear, and so on. Auto-move makes it incredibly easy to do quests. The experience rate is huge (you can make it to level 20 in about 15 minutes), but the game quickly becomes boring – some might say ‘casual’ – because of the redundant quests. SoG’s graphics are bright with clear and spirited colors. The part of the game that's most fun is the PvP. The game has its flaws, but it’s new, so hopefully we’ll see it become more interesting. On the bright side, SoG’s paid features are alluring, but not game-changing, and the game itself can serve up a refreshing gaming session at the end of a tiring day.

Sparta: War of Empires
Sparta: War of Empires (SWE) is a browser-based MMO strategy set in 5th century BC, Greece. It features a classic gameplay enhanced by a great production—visuals, voicing, and music are top-notch here. Sparta: War of Empires starts with players establishing a polis of their own and setting off to populate their town, recruiting soldiers and neutralizing the imminent Persian threat. Even though not aiming to represent history accurately, the setting is quite well realized—really, who cares if in SWE there are Persian settlements in mainland Greece, even though there weren’t any historically. Other than that, the research system is replaced by treaties with other cities; alliances are encouraged as there is in-faction war taking place against other players; trade can be profitable in the game as well. Combat is, as in most games of this type, entirely textual. Overall, there’s definitely nothing unique here, except perhaps for the setting. This doesn’t take away from the fact that it is definitely a well-polished title, but it would be great to see something new for a change.

Star Conflict
Star Conflict, in a nutshell, can be best described as World of Tanks in space. This space game shares a lot of similarities in game mechanics, features, and progression with the popular tank brawler. If you're familiar with World of Tanks, then you'll feel right at home in Star Conflict. Instead of commandeering tanks from humanity's bygone ages of warfare and destruction, players get to pilot high-tech space-faring battleships... for more warfare and destruction. Players get to choose their faction and sub-faction at the start of the game, which will determine their initial ship choices and starting missions. There's a ton of ship choices, with varying roles in team play, and you'll have to slog through the grind to unlock them and their upgrade modules. Combat is fairly paced and fluid, with multiple PvE and PvP modes providing plenty of gameplay variety. For the more competitive player, there's Guild vs Guild warfare where clanners get to vie for space territory. Like World of Tanks, Star Citizen can get extremely grindy, especially when you're unlocking newer, more advanced ships and upgrades. Some of that grind, you can quickly alleviate by investing in the game's cash shop, if you're willing to sink in some real life moolah.

Star Trek Online
Star Trek Online (STO) is a sci-fi MMORPG game, set in the universe of the Star Trek TV shows. Players can choose from three officer professions � engineer, science, and tactical � and numerous races that pertain to the Star Trek canon. The character customization is greatly detailed. Players are given a starship of their own and, after a brief introduction, they start completing ground missions and space missions (the former are far more interesting) to gain experience and new skills. Visually, the game is beautiful and its story is appealing even to players new to Star Trek. Missions become repetitive as the player levels up, but social features help in overcoming the stale gameplay. Overall, however, STO doesn�t do justice to the original franchise, and even the regular updates haven�t been able to cope with the shortcomings inherent in the game economy and combat, making the game less interesting as you progress.

Star Wars: The Old Republic
Star Wars: The Old Republic is an MMORPG developed by BioWare. It’s free to play, but numerous non-subscriber restrictions strongly encourage purchasing a subscription. The game is well-developed, with endless variety provided by the eight classes (four for the Republic, four for the Empire) and the vast, crowded game world. SW: The Old Republic features impressive cinematics, voice acting and an immersive storyline – hundreds of hours of fun while leveling up. Other things one expects from an MMO are found here as well – pets, gear hunting, dungeons (‘flashpoints’), etc. Gameplay is okay in PvE, although you will find yourself clicking the attack key for hours. PvP rocks though. There’s a very unique game mode called Huttball where players compete in a sick, acid-pit-laden interpretation of American football. End-game content still leaves much to be desired, but things have gone noticeably better since release.

StormFall: Age of War
StormFall: Age of War is a browser-based strategy MMO similar to Travian. Players enter the war-stricken world of Darkshine and perpetuate the chaos by waging war against other players. StormFall has the player start in an empty, barren field and fill up the city with buildings. Players are guided by quests that introduce the game’s mechanics; the quests are presented by a rather witty, well-voiced character, and players are given an abundance of the game’s premium currency, Sapphires, for completing them. The usual elements—researching new technologies and unit types, as well as fighting other players in abstract, non-controllable battles—of such strategy games are found in abundance here as well. The premium currency doesn’t mess with StormFall’s flow: many premium items are level-locked so no one can get too far ahead just by paying; furthermore, Sapphires can be acquired by subscribing to useful services like Netflix. StormFall doesn’t seem to quite hit the mark in terms of its visual presentation, and the music integration is frankly bizarre as soundtracks change as you go from one menu to the next, but still there’s good reason to believe that many will enjoy this already quite popular strategy game.

Stronghold Kingdoms
Stronghold Kingdoms is a strategy MMO set in medieval times. The game is a �village/castle� simulator where players compete to become known in the game world. Players construct buildings, fortify their castles, expand their armies, explore the wilderness through various quests, and loot rival player villages for resources. A sizeable game world along with quests ensure that there�s always something to do, and rank and technology advancements add even more variety to this fun, yet complex game. Social elements are plentiful and aspire to hold some degree of realism: for example, players with higher ranks can recruit others to become their vassals, reflecting the feudal system in the Dark Ages. The game is somewhat slow, however, with a rather bold emphasis on playing paid �cards� that speed things up.

Summoner's Legion
Summoner’s Legion is a trading card MMO from R2Games. It’s set on a fantasy world that houses a number of creatures from different times and game universes. Players choose from four classes that differ in their special ability—depending on their class, players can always heal, deal damage or buff others. The combat takes place in one to three lanes and combines disparate card types and ability cards, making up a deck of 30. The single player campaign is fairly easy, but co-op and PvP is where the real fun is at. Try to find rare cards in dungeons and try to guess your enemy’s next move in PvP. Although games are blazing fast (about five minutes against easy opponents), they’re also quite tactical and require a lot of educated guesswork plus a bit of luck. Building a good all-round deck can be nothing short of a Herculean labor, but the mechanics are fairly easy to grasp. There’s a crafting system that boosts the abilities of your cards, plus you can also craft new ones. Summoner’s Legion is a treat in all aspects—visually, gameplay-wise and in terms of longevity too. Do note that the stamina system keeps you from playing as much as you could, and on the off chance you get addicted the game can swallow up a lot of money.

Super Hero Squad Online
A MMO game based on the ever-popular Marvel cartoon, Super Hero Squad. Currently the game is restricted to the United States. It’s run in the browser. You start the game with one of four different characters (Ms. Marvel, Cyclops, Thing and Falcon). Purchase additional characters with gold or silver. Gold is hard to acquire unless you subscribe to the game. Graphics are a treat and are in line with the spirit of the comics/cartoons. Play missions with friends or solo; level up your Marvel superheroes of choice; explore the game world for bonuses and use hero-specific special abilities. Fighting bosses and catching burglars is particularly fun.

Super Mechs
Super Mechs is a Flash robot fighting MMO. Players start with a basic mech and try making it the strongest by beating enemies, gathering experience and upgrading their mechs. Users can play without registering, but PvP is available only to registered users. The turn-based combat is actually very interesting with numerous variables, such as energy, heat capacity, action points and the enemy’s strong points and vulnerabilities that need to be taken into account if the player hopes to win. There are three types of Super Mechs, and all of them can be upgraded using the in-game currency – players will find themselves in the garage quite often, thinking up the best setup for their mechs. If this sounds complicated, it really isn’t – the game plays like an arcade and is a perfect, addictive time sink to enjoy at work or, better yet, after.

Sword Saga
Sword Saga is a browser-based MMORPG with a fantasy setting. It’s developed by R2Games. Sword Saga features the archetypal three classes of RPGs and limited customization. After picking a class, the players set off on their rather derivative adventure, acquiring companions or mercenaries on the way. They level up together with the player and are paired with pets and mounts. On the one hand, Sword Saga has an abundance of dungeons and side activities, plus the combat features some variety as there’s unit placement and usable skills. On the other hand, the other aspects of the game are very generic. Furthermore, the female characters and NPCs have breasts so ample it’s quite insulting for this day and age. Sword Saga doesn’t aim to be something ground-breaking; it’s good enough to warrant a try, at least for the casual gamer, but those who esteem qualities like originality and invention should look elsewhere.

Swordsman Online
Swordsman Online is a martial arts MMORPG by Perfect World. It features a great variety of classes and a game world based on a popular novel by Louis Cha. Players can customize their character in great depth, and the ten available classes make for an endless variety in character builds (but not looks, sadly). The fun, cutscene-laden story takes the player through the first 25 levels in a breeze. Open-world PvP kicks in at level 30, and there�s quite some discrepancy between the abilities of paying and non-paying members. However, the combat itself is utterly captivating, with guild PvP instances and solo dungeons. Some instances have their stats normalized, encouraging skill-based gameplay�but only to an extent. As for the presentation, Swordsman Online excels with beautiful aesthetics reminiscent of anime/manga. The audio presentation you will love or hate as it features a lot of Chinese traditional music. Swordsman online is definitely a well-polished title. It offers nothing particularly unique, but everything seems just finely executed, especially the combat. The main complaints are related to the open-world PvP and the cash shop, but finding a good guild can mitigate some of these.

Tales of Solaris (formerly Tales of Laputa) is a browser-based MMORPG set in a world where magic and machinery coexist. This anime-inspired game boasts colorful graphics, interesting turn-based combat and casual aspects of play like enchanting and pet keeping. Players choose from six classes and explore the game world together with a cosmetic or combat pet. A future update will also include armor for pets, further increasing their combat efficiency. Social features are emphasized heavily – social gamers are awarded with buffs; there’s also a lovers’ system. While the game is mostly pretty generic, the intricately developed enchanting and pet keeping systems might just keep you playing.

Tera Rising
Tera � called Tera Rising after it moved to F2P (free to play) � is an MMORPG with some hack�n�slash elements. It sports 7 races and 8 character classes, with a massive game world to house them. Visually stunning, the game provides an immersive experience with a skill-based combat system and countless monsters to use it on. Once past the initial �kill x mobs and return� quest chain, players can dedicate themselves to doing PvP and PvE, dueling other players or killing Big Ass Monsters (BAMs) in the intricate dungeons. There seem to be three main flaws to Tera: lack of quest variety, the poor story and, more serious still, the lack of engaging endgame content. It�s still a good game, but keep in mind that it has its flaws.

The Mighty Quest for Epic Loot
The Mighty Quest for Epic Loot is an action-driven MMORPG with some tower defense elements. Players choose from three classes – warrior, thief and wizard – and strive to amass the greatest treasure pile in the kingdom of Opulencia by raiding player- and monster-controlled castles. A unique feature in this game is the ability to set up your own castle defenses against other players. The game has its humorous moments – for example, there’s a monster named ‘Derp IV’ in the Mighty Quest. The gameplay is solid and fast-paced; the graphics go with the humorous tone, constantly exploiting RPG tropes; and finally F2P (free-to-play) players don’t seem to be left out of the fun, in the long run at least. If the developers fix some quirks related to leveling up and looting gear, The Mighty Quest for Epic Loot will become a very good time waster indeed.

The Secret World
The Secret World is a darkly binding MMORPG set in the modern-day real world. It’s developed by Funcom, the masterminds behind MMOs like Anarchy Online and Age of Conan. Join one of the battling factions – Illuminati, Templar or Dragon – and make your way through the world by following quests, supplemented by side jobs and dungeons. Spanning diverse real-world and mythical locations like Seoul, London and the esoteric Agartha, TSW weaves together fiction and fact to create an experience reminiscent of legendary titles like Deus Ex. TSW features many challenges—quest clues have to be googled; many missions require stealth and planning; the richly detailed locations have to be explored detective-style. The skill system stands out in that it doesn’t have levels, and much good can be said about the sheer subtlety and the noir atmosphere of the game world. Bottom line, TSW is quite unique in many respects. Note, however—the combat is rather dull, and quests become boring late in the game. Altogether, though, even if TSW was scathed for the lack of imagination in its end-game in early reviews, it has come a long way since. The highly enjoyable part of the game has become much longer, and the multiplayer more diverse. For a trial, a friend will have to invite you over.

The Settlers Online
The Settlers Online is a strategy MMO set in the Settlers universe. You start with a city inhabited by a few people with barbarians roaming around the borders. As the game unfolds, you realize that there’s a lot to do and a lot to build in order to get out of your own village and into the world. There are more than 70 unique buildings and numerous combat units. Strategy favors mixed armies, and planning the makeup of yours is mandatory. To further complicate matters, there’s an abundance of resource types as well. The developers have slowly but surely added updates, with PvP being on the way. The game backfires on non-paying senior players as construction times get really long in the end game. Social perks, such as buffs lasting 50% longer when cast by another player, motivate players to make friends, and that’s what this game seems to be about.

Tiny Mighty Heroes Unite
Tiny Mighty Heroes Unite is a team-based superhero browser game heavily "inspired" by Marvel Comics. By "inspired", I mean familiar looking but ridiculously named superheroes with comical powers and unusually pudgy designs. Early on, you encounter a quest giver called "Furrious", the game's analogue for Beast. Shortly after, you recruit "The Archer", a stumpy Hawkeye clone who fires plungers at his foes and cleans toilets after every victorious battle. Yes, the game is *that* weird, and it becomes even more strange as you progress through content. At its core, Tiny Mighty is a team building, equipment and item grinding game. Heroes can be improved through a multitude of ways – equipment, direct stat boosts and ability unlocks. Questing and grinding are the usual modes of progression, limited by a stamina bar that replenishes over time. PvP is present in the form of a battle arena where players can skirmish with each other for fame and rewards. Though combat is automated, players can use hero abilities to turn the tide of battle in their favor. Aside from its bizarre humor, there's nothing fresh or unique in Tiny Mighty Heroes Unite. Compared to other browser titles, it's below average in graphical and aural presentation. The game is also poorly localized, with occasional translation errors popping up here and there. Players looking for a polished superhero browser game might want to skip this one and move on to the next.

Total Domination
Total Domination is an isometric sci-fi MMORTS, played in the browser. It’s similar to Travian and many of the standard MMORTS tropes are presented here in an unoriginal way, such as building an army, gathering resources, research, etc., though the technology trees are perhaps a bit better thought out than the usual. On the flip side, developers have obviously invested in graphics and other atmospherics, such as voice acting. Total Domination has lots of social features; you gain advantage either by bugging your friends or buying extras. Full-screen support may be the most original feature of this game. If you are simply looking for a clear-cut (not to say cookie-cutter) MMORTS which isn’t done lazily, Total Domination might just do the trick.

Travian is one of the oldest strategy MMOs out there. Set in the Roman Empire, circa 1st century AD, the game sports three different classes, representing different nationalities – the Gauls, Romans, and Teutons. Beginning players build their villages; veteran players wage war. Travian is exciting -- every 100 to 300 days (depending on the server) the end-game festivities commence, and culminate in an emerging winner. Travian is easy to learn but hard to master, and is almost flawless, except for two caveats, one minor and the other game-changing – the graphics are virtually non-existent, and players who throw money at the game have noticeable advantages.

Tribal Wars 2
Tribal Wars 2 (TW2) is the new version of the ever-popular MMO strategy of the same name. The game is similar to its predecessor, but has prettier looks along with some fun extras. TW2 plays much like your typical MMO, but that’s because the company behind it all but started the genre. Its gameplay focuses on ‘tribes’ of hundreds of people bent on ruling a world. Gather resources, build, recruit troops and complete goals to move forward. The worlds have expiration dates, and TW2 features new endgame mechanics that allow players to become kings of a server if they have the highest-level fortress. The king of a world can assign certain roles to the players of his tribe, adding a team management touch to the gameplay. Other innovations include account sharing in co-op mode, as well as reconnaissance buildings and unit types. TW2 is certainly an easier sell than the predecessor, mostly for its refreshing new looks and the convenient UI. The construction of the fortress cannot be sped up with in-game money so that’s some consolation to those who don’t want to pay up. The first version has been played for some 10 years, and the second installment seems to hold quite some allure as well, especially if you played the original.

Trove
Trove is a voxel-based sandbox MMORPG released by Trion Worlds, the developers of the popular free-to-play MMORPG RIFT. Trove builds on the Minecraft formula by focusing more on combat, progression, and exploration. Trove also features procedurally-generated worlds, so each zone is unique in layout and content. There are currently fifteen unique classes available for players to choose during character creation. The selection covers melee and ranged classes, each with their own physical and magical damage dealing abilities. Players can switch between classes (which have individual levels) provided they've unlocked them beforehand. Trove's gameplay is typical of any level progression-based 3D MMORPG. Players defeat monsters to gain experience, loot, and resources for item crafting and building. Weapon drops have randomized stats and rarity depending on zone difficulty, so players looking to optimize their character will have to spend more time grinding the perfect arsenal. Combat is simple hack-and-slash, and while easy, it can get quite monotonous after a while. PvP combat is available in the form of a battle arena where players can duke it out for fame and rewards. For creative home builders, the game has a multitude of blocks and doodads that can be used to create the ultimate player fortress. Some of the building materials are only available from the higher difficulty zones, so progressing through content is still crucial to the experience. Overall, Trove is a pleasant, polished voxel game for those looking for a different spin to the tried-and-tested Minecraft formula. Give it a whirl if you're up for some voxel-based action with the standard conventions of an MMORPG.

Tyrant
Tyrant is a MMO Collectible Card Game (CCG) set in a sci-fi environment reminiscent of Warhammer 40K. The game is played in a browser. There is an absence of health or mana cards in Tyrant, which removes some complexity from the gameplay; instead, the emphasis is on cards with special abilities as well as elemental cards. A player’s deck consists of 10 cards, and the developers are keen to update the deck to keep the game fresh. Tyrant is fast-paced, especially in single player, but there’s not much variety in the game until you get to PvP. Once you’re in, however, the game gets more fun, especially if you’re willing to spend a coin for extra cards. Ultimately, though, CCG enthusiasts should lower their expectations before diving in, mainly due to the limited strategy options.

Ultimate Naruto (UN) is a casual MMORPG set in the eponymous universe of the popular series. You step into the shoes of a Nin, Gen or Tai fighter and choose from two available characters of each fighting style. Later on players are able to recruit more powerful heroes like Naruto and Kakashi and fight side by side with them. Players are gradually introduced to other features like pets and PvP arenas. Combat, sadly, is fully automated from the ground up and players can skip it only if they pay. The game, although occasionally cluttered with character lookalikes, does look rather pleasant, sporting vivid, colorful graphics that pertain to those of the anime. The story can keep you captivated but the players� lack of control combined with other flaws�like having so little to do!�drowns out the few good things there are about this game.

Unlimited Ninja (formerly known as Ultimate Naruto) is a ninja-themed, browser-based MMORPG. It sports anime characters �in no way affiliated with Naruto�. Players specialize in Genjutsu, Ninjutsu, or Taijutsu fighting styles/philosophies and set off to explore the world, battling the forces of the Nine-tailed Demon Fox that have besieged the village. Even though there�s limited customization at start, as players branch out a whole new world of possibilities opens up, like combat role customization and tactics. The turn-based combat might be a bore, but strategy plays a huge role in Ultimate Ninja even if not obviously so at the start. PvP opens quite late and its main use is testing character and equipment builds as well as strategies. An elaborate pet system, coupled with team building and huge stores of equipment and quests add to the longevity of this game. Players will enjoy the simple interface, the appropriate music and especially the warm, colorful graphics. Those who love Naruto will definitely find this game worth their while, and even skeptical players can be, in time, converted into believers as after a slow start to the story, the peaceful, intriguing world coalesces into an experience that�s rare to be found in this genre.

Uprising Empires
Uprising Empires is a strategy MMO, set in an alternate history in the year 1280 AD. Choose from four factions, build up your city, recruit heroes, and invade foreign soil to become the overlord of the game. There are four age advancements, which is always good as such advancements create an end-game goal; then there are opportunities for alliances to actually emerge victorious in the game and this adds an extra motivation to play. Unfortunately, the game’s innovation stops here. There are the usual daily quests, research and city conquering, attacking barbarians, and so on. Graphically, the game isn’t striking but doesn’t put a strain on the eyes. Also, the obvious emphasis on paid features makes a good deal of the game unavailable to those unwilling to pay.

Vikings: War of Clans
Become a powerful Jarl and command your legions of berserkers for honor and glory in Vikings: War of Clans. Set in the tumultuous period when Viking kingdoms fought for dominance in the North, Vikings: War of Clans is primarily a player-versus-player empire-building online game. Band together with fellow warriors and join an ever-dynamic world of epic battles and large-scale warfare. Vikings: War of Clans comes from Plarium, the seasoned strategy game devs behind Sparta: War of Empires and Stormfall: Age of War, so it's as polished as strategy games get. The usual empire-builder strategy features are present in this game. Jarls get to build structures, train troops, invest in research, and engage in specializations - all for the glory of their kingdom. There's also a hero system in tandem with equipment crafting mechanics. As always, player-run alliances are the cornerstone feature in games like this, and any newbie Jarl would do well to join an established alliance if they want to progress meaningfully in the game. Like in most F2P empire-builder games out there, players must be ready to sink in some cash if they want to be competitive in Vikings: War of Clans. The way these online games are designed, non-paying players will always be at a significant disadvantage compared to their paying counterparts. Of course, players can opt to be casual in the game and play without spending a single cent. Just be warned that it won't be a pleasant experience, especially when battling against the hardcore, paying variety of Jarl.

A hack-n-slash MMORPG with a storyline revolving around Celtic mythology. Choose from five characters – Lann (DPS warrior), Fiona (paladin), Evie (mage/support), Karok (tank), and Kai (archer) -- and hack away at the well detailed world of Vindictus. The Source engine, also used for Half-life 2, allows you to interact with the environment on a greater scale than in virtually any other MMORPG. The game’s combat system is the cherry on the pie: you can slash your opponents with practically anything, be it the kettle on the floor, the monster’s helmet, or the broom which just happens to be lying around. Instance-based play (the cities act as hubs and trade centers) offers solo and co-op opportunities; PvP is also available, both in dungeons and arenas.

War Thunder
War Thunder is a dogfighting MMO title developed by Gaijin. Players select an airplane and duke it out in one of the three game modes: team versus team arcade, historical battles (recreations of World War II battles) and deathmatches. There are a number of plane types, such as bombers, fighters, assault planes and others. Each country has its own unique planes as well as abilities, and every plane is flown in a unique way. The combat is intense and quite realistic � e.g., players can one-shot enemy planes by killing the pilot. The game manages to be accessible for beginners while allowing more experienced players to find new ways of gaining the upper hand. The graphics are stellar. Each and every map looks amazing, and plane models are intricately designed and sometimes outright beautiful. Definitely a must-try for anyone who loves planes and World War II history.

Warfare
Warfare is an RTS title set in a post-apocalyptic world ridden by terrorists. Join one of the four nations and remove the terrorist threat, fighting and forming alliances with other players in the process. Players start off small and build up their island base, produce troops, recruit historical generals and look for stronger battle formations in order to better their military success. Three unit types (air, ground, naval) exist with four types of soldiers and three placement types, offering considerable variety in terms of strategy. Players can also loot stat-boosting items for their main character, which they can level up as well; there’s also an elaborate achievement system. The end-game is played in short bursts, but until quite late levels quests are plentiful. The developers could use an editor, so for example the opening credits show off some rather horrid writing: ‘To find new energy resources, new energy resources were sought after.’ Warfare has a rather long tutorial—one can get a taste of what the game has to offer only an hour or so into the game. Some players will find the long building times a chore; others will find that the burst playing manner suits them well.

WarFlow
WarFlow is a browser-based MMO strategy game with a fantasy setting. The player can choose from three factions in a world reminiscent of ancient China. The combat is instance-based, and Legion-vs-Legion play (PvP) is unlocked at level 10. Although the actual combat is boring, the preparation brings real strategy to this game – you have to tinker around to find the best possible formation, unit combination, and equipment for your heroes. Social play is greatly rewarded – you can finish groups of NPC monsters a lot faster if you recruit allies for the task. Obtain silver (the main resource) by levy and move up the legion ranks within your own city.
