A Mystical Land
A Mystical Land is a browser-based MMORPG that raises the bar for Facebook RPGs. Choose from four classes and set off to explore the vast game world. The game’s quests are dynamic, and NPC dialogue is quite funny; however, the real treat is the vast crafting/profession system – you can actually play the game without killing any mobs… and make a bunch of stuff in the process! Players can also get achievements and rewards for doing them. The game’s graphics are nice and cartoony, but there can be performance issues in the city. A Mystical Land is admittedly directed towards casual gamers, but the game world is engrossing and vivid enough to offer something for the more serious players, too.See Videos

2d scrolling MMORPG. Unlike most other massively multiplayer role playing games, this game was developed entirely in Adobe Flash -- by the same team who developed the first AdventureQuest single-player RPG. This is not a sequel but an entirely different game with the same (and better) attention to storyline and quests yet in a persistent game world with real time interaction. Humorous and rewarding gameplay. Four classes to choose from the ability to multi-class to make things more interesting.See Videos

Alliance Warfare (AW) is an MMORTS, played in the browser. It takes place in the medieval Land of Endless War and has players build and expand their kingdom, create armies and strive for world domination. The game is fairly typical as strategy titles go, but the community is vibrant and open. What’s very special about AW is that it has its own radio station with DJs that actively participate in the game by dedicating songs to players and answering questions. Players complete quests, manage their cities’ resources and form alliances with others. AW offers a quite elaborate research tree with three main branches. The cash shop is quite mundane, offering commonplace buffs and even more commonplace advantages to paying players. Again, the most fun in AW is to be had from the community features and the radio station, which make the game stand out from the plethora of similar MMORTS titles.See Videos

Ancient Summoner is an MMO trading card game with some elements from other genres. It’s very similar to Rise of Mythos and Kings and Legends. As such, there’s not much to say about combat besides that it’s welcoming for newcomers but complex enough to keep experienced players happy. There’s also an AI that is great for offline moneymaking but generally will get you nowhere fast. At level 10 four classes – Warrior, Ranger, Mage and Priest – open up and players start getting skill cards that pertain to their class. Players can build, name and save their custom decks. The game features a nice user interface and the graphics are generally good for a browser-based title. It’s true that players can generally grow their card deck without paying, but getting the best cards is pretty hard without investing real money.See Videos

Andromeda 5 is a spaceship action MMO that can be played in the browser. It features a vast array of customizable ships as well as numerous galaxies to explore; players acquire skills that further make their characters unique. More than 200 missions are available, not to mention the quite intensive PvP where players can participate in free-for-all deathmatches and team games as well. Andromeda 5 sports nice graphics and altogether there’s a surprising amount of content that will keep you busy for a while. The game does, however, fall flat when you consider that Andromeda falls well within the Eve Online-dominated spectrum of MMOs and when you take into account that the cash shop seems to give paying players a very real edge.See Videos

Animal Jam is a browser-based kids’ game developed by National Geographic. Children choose their avatar from 8 different animals and begin their adventures in the world of Jamaa. The game is centered on exploring the vast game world, playing the game’s numerous mini-games and buying newer, kitschier merchandise for their animal avatar. Kids also often engage in elaborate, creative roleplaying. Parents may wonder about educational content promised in the game’s ads. It’s there, but it’s not enforced, and kids can very well run around the game world without learning much about animals or geography. The game simply seems like a virtual world where children can learn much about online interactions (which are well-moderated) and trading instead – all very valuable skills, but it’s important that parents shouldn’t be deceived about the game being educational. It can be such, but is not necessarily so.See Videos

Anno Online is a strategy MMO/city simulator set in the Anno universe. Players build their city and manage resources and production with the ultimate goal of becoming the richest city-state in the game world. The medieval setting and the vibrant graphics supplement the experience greatly. Quite far into the game trade routes open up and the task of satisfying the needs of your populace becomes somewhat harder. However, for a city simulator this game doesn’t offer a real challenge (as there are no disasters, foreign invasions, etc.) and after about 100 hours or so of playing it the waiting times become too long to bear. On the flip side, however, it’s pretty good for a casual game and players who just want to see stuff being built will find that Anno Online delivers well, until after they’re already quite tired with the game.See Videos

Astro Lords is an MMORPG/Strategy set in a sci-fi universe. Players control an asteroid, construct and upgrade buildings and fight with others to gain control over the Oort cloud. The game can be played on iOS, Android and desktop devices. Players might be positively appalled by the lack of character customization, but that is more than compensated by the fact that eventually you can move your base, perhaps towards the members of your alliance, or the enemy if you feel you can gain an edge. The combat has players duke it out in turn-based combat with spaceships in the vast void. It takes quite some skill and provides ample entertainment, because the fights involve dodging slow-moving projectiles (there are lasers too!) and hiding behind asteroids. You’ll either hate it or love it, but it must be said it’s highly original. Astro Lords is definitely a promising title, but the strategy elements could very well be executed better. The skill tree, huge as it is, confuses the player, because it inevitably makes you wonder if you’re looking at a spreadsheet. Even though Astro Lords doesn’t push players into buying anything, progress is quicker with pockets full of premium currency.See Videos

Battle Dawn is an MMO strategy game, played in the browser. Players start their colonies on three game worlds – Earth, Mars, or ‘Medieval fantasy’ - and each of them has a number of servers. Battle Dawn plays quite differently from other browser-based games, as the game is round-based. Players must form alliances, rally troops, spy or even nuke their opponents in order to capture the ten relics present on each world map; once it’s done, the server gets reset. The game has a peculiar interface, reminiscent of older games like Deus Ex or Unreal Tournament, rather than strategy MMOs. The soundtrack is awesome, too. Battle Dawn is slow in terms of leveling and upgrading your colony, but those interested in it will lose hours upon hours fighting to take control over their world.See Videos

Battle Dawn Galaxies
Battle Dawn Galaxies is a strategy MMO from the eponymous series, played in the browser. It differs from the other games of the series in that it has a sci-fi angle to it. Players start a colony, covering their station with buildings, making spaceships, and forming alliances as well as conquering other players to gather the relics that are required to win the round. Players will enjoy the easy-going tutorial that does a great job of introducing the basics; the interface looks & feels good, plus the music is nice. Battles take place textually, so that aspect isn’t too well-represented. Diplomacy plays a huge role as well—one player summed up the peak of his learning thus: ‘learn to be vague enough so your words will not be used against you.’ Battle Dawn is somewhat ‘hardcore’ in that it has a loyal community and it can take quite a bit of playing to become competitive. It’s a long-term investment, one you should avoid if you’re not prepared to make the commitment. Battle Dawn Galaxy definitely makes for a welcome addition among strategy MMOs: it boasts a small but vibrant community; the game flows smoothly; the mechanics make it a blast once the end-game approaches. It could, however, look better for this day and age.See Videos

Battle Dawn Galaxies
Battle Dawn Galaxies is a turn based strategy MMO, played in the browser. The sci-fi setting, the ‘empire management’ and other things seem quite similar to those of other games, but Battle Dawn Galaxies should be noted for a number of interesting features – namely, that players have to have mixed armies for any military success; the game is alliance-based, and these alliances have a member cap of 14; players can be conquered by other players, but that doesn't mean you cannot revolt against the conquering armies. The user interface is nice and some ambient songs accompany the game pretty well. Overall, Battle Dawn Galaxies is definitely one of the most interesting new strategy titles, but the game’s strong points can be overshadowed by the limited available information and the rather low player count.See Videos

Choose from Paladin or Dark Robber knight classes and build your karma through actions to determine your character's attitude. The amount of negative or positive karma you acquire is used to determine which weapons you are able to use. Karma can be gained through duels (yielding different results based on your opponent's existing karma, so tread carefully). Missions always yield positive karma. Enhance your Country Estate to help protect your knight from harm and lower the percentage of gold lost to attackers. Big Farm is a casual farming simulator played in the browser. Players start managing a farm and plant fields, sell harvest as well as manage expenses, all to grow their farm. The gameplay mainly consists of harvesting, planting, reaping and selling produce. From time to time players can construct new buildings such as houses for workers, new fields and mills for making flour. Gold, the premium currency, can be acquired without paying but it’s an arduous task without doing so. New players are guided by quests which award money and experience. The graphics are nice and the quest givers can be quite funny. Big Farm is a casual title with all that entails. It’s well-written and can be fun if Farmville doesn’t quite hit the mark for you. Blood and Jade
Blood and Jade is a browser-based MMORPG set in the Warring States period of China. Players start off small and build their character, recruiting goddesses to fight by their side and meditating to level up abilities. The game world is beautiful but doesn’t pose a challenge at all, taking the player through quests and combat automatically. Being able to lie back means, on the one hand, that players can spend more time arranging their abilities (which include martial arts) and looking at mounts; on the other hand, it makes for an experience that’s everything but immersive. The social aspects add greatly to this game: marriage, guild warfare, and the constant competition to rule the empire make Blood and Jade stand out a bit. The cash shop however doesn’t shy away from pointing out that they’re selling real advantages here. Casual players will enjoy this game as they’ll be able to sit back and play Blood and Jade while doing something else. Players looking for something more immersive and fun should look elsewhere. Competitive players should be prepared to cash up.See Videos

A turn-based online RPG/strategy game, played in the browser. Its game world is not unlike that of Warcraft, with Protoss from StarCraft somehow present, too. You start off with either a warrior or a mage from your faction, and there are three factions -- elves, humans, the undead -- to choose from. You then get access to a castle where you can train troops to conquer territories and expand your ‘nation’, but you’ll get to PvP after quite a while. Call of Thrones
Call of Thrones is a turn-based 3D MMORPG, played in the browser. The story is set in ancient China, in the age of the Three Kingdoms. The player can thus start from three locations and choose from three classes. Call of Thrones follows more of a lazy click-autorun-quest mindset while you get used to the gameplay. The real fun starts when PvP arenas become available at level 20 -- skills are plentiful and strategy isn’t just a word in Call of Thrones’ PvP, which also has guild wars and a ‘siege mode’. The game’s interface is quite cluttered, and so are the graphics -— but they’re bearable for a browser-based game. There are numerous exotic pets and mounts. The game features a well-detailed crafting system; however, that, along with the PvP, are the only things worth mentioning in Call of Thrones.See Videos

See The Settlers Online. Castle Empire is a browser-based MMO strategy game developed by Ubisoft. You start with a town center, construct buildings, gather resources, explore the map and attack lawless robbers once you’ve reached level 17. There are nine troop varieties and numerous resource types that players can use to their advantage. Castle Empire has plenty of social features – for example, you can add friends and send them goods – and this is handy because the game can get tiring after the initial power-leveling is finished. Later in the game players can equip their explorers with minerals which allow them to search for adventures (these always end in a big battle with great rewards).
The graphics are nice, and the game runs smoothly on older computers too. PvP is yet to be implemented. Altogether, if you already like this kind of strategy game, Castle Empire is a completely harmless time waster – but definitely not anything groundbreakingly original.

Castlot is a browser-based MMO strategy game set in 6th century Britain – the time of King Arthur and his knights. Players choose between two factions and are introduced to the fine points of the game with an interactive tutorial. Castlot’s story is definitely a strong point: players will often find themselves wondering what’ll happen next. The other features aren’t that good, though: bland RPG elements do little to add to the game’s overall value; Castlot is centered on battles, and players will be surprised at how boring these battles can be. Furthermore, the long wait times (which can only be reduced through the cash shop) have made experienced players infamously refer to the game as ‘Cashalot’. Not that it’s all bad to be fair: community features are excellent and so are some strategy elements like the ability to set traps, etc. The bottom line – it’s a diverse game that can be fun, but mostly isn’t.See Videos

Clash of the Dragons
Clash of the Dragons is a fantasy-themed MMO collectible card game. There are four classes, each giving bonuses to certain types of cards – that’s why players have to tailor their card decks to fit their class. The battle system is unique among this type of game; in Clash of the Dragons the cards act as a player’s hitpoints. The game sports some RPG elements, like the ability to level up and move around the game world in search for foes. Visually, the game is somewhat lacking in terms of card design, especially in comparison with real-life collectible card games. The gameplay is fun, however, and if you like the genre there’s a good chance you’ll like Clash of the Dragons for its unique spin on the meaning of the card deck.See Videos
