A Mystical Land
A Mystical Land

A Mystical Land is a browser-based MMORPG that raises the bar for Facebook RPGs. Choose from four classes and set off to explore the vast game world. The game’s quests are dynamic, and NPC dialogue is quite funny; however, the real treat is the vast crafting/profession system – you can actually play the game without killing any mobs… and make a bunch of stuff in the process! Players can also get achievements and rewards for doing them. The game’s graphics are nice and cartoony, but there can be performance issues in the city. A Mystical Land is admittedly directed towards casual gamers, but the game world is engrossing and vivid enough to offer something for the more serious players, too.

Alien Arena
Alien Arena

One of the most popular free first person shooters out there. Works on almost any platform: PC/Linux/Mac OS. Nice graphics. Created to be the perfect cross-breed of Quake Arena III and Unreal Tournament using retro science fiction for style. In Alien Arena you will find the traditional first person shooter game types as well as Deathball and Cattle Prod (which combine deathmatch with some odd goals to complete). Choose from nine different characters, each with their own benefits and shortcomings. Lots of mods (called mutators) are used to change up the rules -- and add a whole lot of fun.

Dreamland Online
Dreamland Online

A 3D side-scrolling anime RPG adventure game. It is your choice to download the program or use the browser-based interface but I recommend playing through facebook due to the great job they did with integration. Browser-based play requires the install of the Kalydo plugin. If you are hip on A.I. companions, the game features a robust pet system. There are lots of player versus environment quests and plenty of player-versus-player combat if you are interested in turning it on. Start as a nondescript character. When you reach level ten you choose from one of four classes: Warrior, Archer, Magician, or Rogue. Select a mount from a eclectic mix of things like dinosaurs, robots and even skateboards. Each of the zones have different, pleasing fantasy-themed environments for your cartoon-shaded character.

Pockie Ninja
Pockie Ninja

2D browser and turn based arena battle. Select from a variety of popular anime characters from Naruto and Bleach. The game is made up almost entirely of player versus player combat (no environmental roaming or resource gathering). There are tons of skills to acquire as you progress. There is a game map and as you travel to other places there are different types of battle and also an item shop for special boons, but don’t expect to gather wolf pelts or go fishing for experience points.

Quake Live
Quake Live

Browser-based first person shooter ported from Quake III Arena. When you first start playing, there is a match making system that will measure your skill as you play a series of introductory matches to help place you in your league. Successful game mod developers were contracted to assist in the game design, giving the game some quirky cheesiness to master on the road to fragging to your heart's content. See the tutorial videos on their site for tricks like circle jumps to get a feel for what I’m talking about. The game is ad-supported, playing videos between matches and such, but it doesn't interrupt gameplay. There are eight game modes to participate in. A few modes are subscription-based but not to worry. There’s plenty of action and little reason to subscribe for more.

Shards of Dreams
Shards of Dreams

Browser-based massively multplayer RPG. Adventure in a large game world which looks and feels very similar to Diablo. You have to click to move (no arrows or W-A-S-D option). There are warrior, thief, priest, and magician classes with three sub-clases or Schools each to choose from. Join groups of up to five players for dungeon instances or fly solo. Plenty of player versus environment content. After level ten you are presented with the option to join either the Empire or Wasteland factions.
