King's Road

King's Road

King’s Road is a browser-based dungeon crawler MMO by Rumble Games. It brings the experience of titles like Diablo and Torchlight to the browser in a beautiful 3D environment.

King’s Road is amazing right off the bat. Players enter into a world of chaos and distress and left-click their way around by unlocking new skills, merchants, achievements and crafting features. And of course, getting heaps upon heaps of loot is also an integral part of it. The game world is instanced not real-time, having the player travel to hubs and dungeons from the main city. King’s Road sports the three staple classes – wizard, archer, knight – and an intricate skill tree for each. Classes can be switched in-game. Players craft items by giving them to a blacksmith; this does provide an incentive not to sell everything, but it’s also very slow. Upon death players simply wait for revival, but some dungeons will kick out a player after their third death. Social features are abundant (co-op is available even with strangers) and maps have replay value—in fact, replaying is highly encouraged—as completion of a level awards premium currency.

Overall, if you had the slightest bit of fun playing Diablo, Torchlight, Nox, or any other such game for that matter—do play King’s Road. It’s nothing short of amazing.

Kingdom Rift

Kingdom Rift

Kingdom Rift is a browser-based MMORPG from R2Games. It features a vivid and beautiful fantasy world that’s dulled by autocombat and a lack of real challenge.

As it is with R2 titles, the first thing to ask is whether there’s something unique to find here. As you reach level 20 (in ten minutes or so), you start to see that there isn’t, but it isn’t all bad either. Even though stuff is being thrown at the player for no good reason—you acquire a mount in, like, three minutes—and you can run around clicking ‘Accept’ and ‘Hand in’ and watch your character level up just like that, Kingdom Rift is also beautiful and atmospheric. There’s also some sense of progress as players play through the story in seven stages. Strategy isn’t that important as combat can be computer-controlled, plus it’s decided mostly by battle rating, which for all practical purposes replaces a character’s stats.

Kingdom Rift is better than the average R2 game. Whether it makes it fun enough to play, that’s up for debate. You should, however, at least take a look at it if you liked Diablo and like watching your character grow, even if you don't play much of a role in the process.

Kingdoms At War

Kingdoms At War

Browser based strategy war game set in a fantasy setting. There is also an app for your iPhone or iPad. What sets this strategy game apart is the player-versus-environment quests so you aren’t required to continually battle other players for extra gold that you need to build your production buildings (which aren’t cheap to set up). You resources are primarily gold, trained combatants and spies. Use your spies to Scout your enemies defenses, Steal gold, or Assassinate enemy troops while they are sleeping. Real-time attacks and espionage take place in the form of a live news feed, allowing you to respond quickly to actions taken against you. Choose your allies wisely and join a clan for safety. The game offers a well designed interface and strong community interaction. The name of the game is expansion. Grow your kingdom into the most powerful in the land.

Kings and Legends

Kings and Legends

Kings and Legends is a card trading game with some city building elements. It’s played in the browser. Players start with a measly deck and try getting new, better cards to duke their opponents with. Four classes and card types add greatly to the game’s diversity—and so does the lane fighting system. There’s also a storyline that can keep you interested, especially since you can get new cards in story-related PvE. The game’s city building aspect is important as it can help you get better cards. Group battles are available as well in addition to regular PvP card duels. Each player has a hero that can use skills, and the game is over once one of the heroes is dead. The game manages to mix RPG, strategy and card game elements into one coherent mass. High-level players will have to compete for godlike cards, which are very rare unless bought.

Kings Era

Kings Era

Kings Era is an MMO strategy game with cash prizes. Choose a resource-specific class and endow your city with buildings, troops and heroes.

Kings Era has some quirky innovations that spice things up—building times are slow, but you can level up your heroes with board games or hunting (it’s in 3D! 3D!) while you’re waiting. The main emphasis here is on competition as servers last for up to 9 months until a winner surfaces. If you’re lucky you can loot barbarian camps and cash in rare items. Alliances are allowed and encouraged but at a certain point you’ll be left to your own devices.

Paying players will have much better odds to score some treasure and perchance even battle for the grand prize. However, if you can convince some friends to join, who knows—maybe it’s friendship, not money, that has a better chance in Kings Era.

KingsAge

KingsAge

KingsAge is a strategy MMO set in medieval times. Players take control of a village, expand, form an army, and gain loyal followers to make a name for themselves in the world. This strategy plays similarly to Ikariam or Tribal Wars, but KingsAge doesn’t seem nearly as populated, and the beginning of the game feels somewhat slow. Just like in the games mentioned, players can hold quite a number of villages -- the management of which can get a little time consuming. To do the game justice, however, it should be noted that KingsAge, with all its weaknesses, is a fun war strategy where collaboration (and other, more violent forms of interaction) with other players becomes more rewarding past the slow start.

Knight's Fable

Knight's Fable

Knight’s Fable is a browser-based MMORPG set in an anime-inspired fantasy world. It features a rich game world and a rather casual gameplay.

The game features four classes, two for each sex, but the character can be changed later on while keeping the stats. Knight’s Fable requires the player to click for quests and skill upgrades (as well as the various side activities like fishing, clearing dungeons, and escorting cargo), but the rest of the game happens automatically. Most of the player’s success is based on the Battle Rating, gained by leveling up or finding/enchanting equipment. The story, once it eases out of the numerous damsel-in-distress scenarios, actually captivates and is light enough not to overwhelm. Of course social features like pets, parties and the likes are featured here as well.

Even though one might deem Knight’s Fable to be a needless addition to a vast array of similar games, it’s actually better than most of the pack. The story is decent, the game doesn’t push you to buy anything, and last but not least there’s just an abundance of things to do.
