Dragons of Atlantis
|
|
Dragons of Atlantis (DoA) is a strategy MMO set in a mythical age of dragons. Choose from four tribes, build up your city and its outer areas, and fight for domination together with your alliance. At its core, DoA is pretty much the usual strategy MMO (with extra dragons!), but manages to add depth to the gameplay with several interesting – although not entirely original – features like special units, spying, and scouting. DoA is PvP-centric, but PvE is available, too, and is an essential feature of the game as players go item hunting in the wilderness. If you’ve played one game developed by Kaban, you've played them all, but still, DoA is an above-average strategy game – at least for people who appreciate fiercely competitive PvP. See Videos >>

3D browser-based dungeon building and raiding game developed using the Unity game engine (with a very neat dungeon design interface I might add). The game possesses both RPG and strategy elements. Your hero earns experience and acquires skills. Build your own dungeon and raid other player’s dungeons with friends or solo, fighting monsters in turn-based combat for loot that will help you improve your own dungeon. If any heroes die in your crib they’ll drop even more. Best to keep your dungeon monsters healthy and well trained. See Videos >>

Eredan is an online card playing game set in the Eredan universe. There are two Eredan titles, and Eredan iTCG is discussed here, not Eredan GT. There are a number of factions, all of which have unique card decks and racial strengths and weaknesses. The skill level is Elo-based, which makes finding matched opponents a lot easier. A fun tutorial takes you through the basics, and sets you right off to explore the world where there’s certainly a lot to explore. See Videos >>

Exoplanet war is an online strategy game. The game is set in a sci-fi setting reminiscent of the Warhammer universe -- three races are struggling for victory on a planet Xenos that is the only source of a rare resource, called... Xenos. The player is given a fresh, non-developed colony on the planet, and has to build buildings, gather resources, form alliances with other players or engage them in combat when their army is big enough. Players can also raid rebel forces (monsters) on the planet and complete quests to gain resources faster. There are lots of unit types (infantry, vehicles, air, defensive, offensive, etc.) and the game is a challenge for anyone who enjoys military strategy. The game does have a "pay up" attitude, as its paid features are presented to the player somewhat aggressively.

Fire911 is a firefighting simulator. The game is set in a SimCity-ish environment, and you do your best to respond to emergencies that happen in the city by sending fire trucks, police trucks or ambulance cars. Aside from a fire station, you can build police stations, ambulance services, technical help services and hospitals. The game hasn’t got a competitive aspect (Fire911’s goal is expanding your buildings and protecting the city from danger), but you can friend up with other users and receive extra trucks from them when you have some extra emergencies happening in your city. Although free, Fire911 can get dull if you aren’t a social gamer, and slow if you don’t pay to complete buildings or put out fires faster.

Goal United is an online MMO which puts you in the role of a soccer club manager. You have to upgrade your stadium to host games, sign new players and trade away those who don’t fit in, sign deals with sponsors (you can even negotiate with them), and keep your players in top form to ensure you emerge victorious versus other football managers. The game is league-based -- each league consists of 10 teams. On the lower leagues, the three best teams get promoted to a higher league automatically. However, as your team gets better, you’ll have to battle neighboring league teams in the playoffs in order to reach a higher league. The game is beginner-friendly as there’s an awesome tutorial for newbies. GoalUnited’s details will keep you busy for weeks, as you can tweak every possible setting, player placement, etc. The game can, however, get somewhat slow for those who don’t purchase additional features. Godfather: Five Families

|
The Godfather: Five Families is a browser-based, mafia-family-simulator/strategy MMO developed by Kabam. It’s set in the US after World War 2, and focuses on the five families from Mario Puzo’s book – the Tattaglia, Barzini, Corleone, Cuno, and Stracci families. The player gets to assume the role of a single family and build up its mansion and estates, join a crew of other players, raid rival gangs and fight for influence in NYC. The game is stylish -- from the background music to the game’s cutscenes and city visuals, the game looks and feels awesome. There’s always something to do in Godfather, as quests (jobs) and social opportunities are plentiful. If you’re a fan of the movies/books, Godfather will likely be an interesting game to you, due to the backstory and the beautiful depiction of the Godfather universe. Infinite Realms is a sci-fi themed MMO strategy game, played through Facebook. Players have to build production structures, upgrade their outposts, train troops and recruit heroes to conquer new areas, build alliances and fight both player and computer enemies (mobs). Although the game doesn’t offer much originality, it is the sci-fi setting that has its appeal. If you’re one for stories, the game offers "mission text" for each mission you’re given, and the missions are daily. Infinite Realms is by no means a game that could earn the title for ‘most innovative Facebook game’, but it’s playable and has a somewhat small but friendly community.
