Crystal Saga is a free browser-based MMORPG. It's fairly standard for its genre, relying on the usual five classes (Knight, Rogue, Mage, Priest and Ranger), and not offering many innovations. However, Crystal Saga's strengths begin with its gorgeous 2D fantasy art and silky animation, featuring over-the-top costumes and special effects. And Crystal Saga's “auto-pilot” feature lets players grind through monsters while being AFK, which really takes away a lot of the drudgery common to browser RPGs.
Crystal Saga includes a good PvP system with PK environments on designated servers. Open PvP is only available to level 20+ players. Five PVP states are available: Peace mode won’t allow you to attack anyone; Evil is lets you attack everyone; Justice allows you to attack red-named players. Finally, Party and Guild modes protect your allies from friendly fires.
The quests are the usual go-and-fetch and kill-X-number-of-monsters. The gameplay of Crystal Saga is mostly typical for an MMORPG game but it features a robust pet system. Like players, the pets also engage in combat, level up, evolve, and learn skills, and players can distribute stats for their pet’s growth.

Cultures Online is a strategy game with RPG elements, set in the age of Vikings. The game is played in a web browser. You can play as a Viking or an Asian; both races have unique buildings and characters. CO has nice, sketchy graphics, an interesting user interface, and an above-average soundtrack. There are six types of resources; the ‘ideas’ resource is cool, as it stacks up, allowing you to research stuff when you’ve logged in after some time. PvP is optional, and the game doesn’t deliver much in the PvP aspect. There are plenty of quests available for leveling your character and acquiring gold and resources. Cultures Online might be an interesting game for an evening or two, but, as PvP is optional, it lacks the competitive aspect that makes browser-based games so interesting.See Videos

Cyber Monster 2
Cyber Monster 2 is a casual MMORPG played in the browser. It has all of the cliché ‘casual stuff’—automated combat and quests, ubiquitous pets and numerous community features for socializing while leveling up. Worth mentioning are also the benefits for cooperative players, e.g., being a member of an active guild will get you free stuff. Players can arrange their troops for upcoming battles - this allows you at least some degree of control. The fantasy-themed story is of little importance and for that matter little merit as well (still… at least it has dragons). NPCs have terrible English but at times catch you off guard with quirky humor—one NPC relates a tale about a heartbroken mermaid who lost it and turned herself into Taylor Swift, adding to this ‘What a tragedy story!’ There’s an impressive amount of content in this colorful game, but of course bear in mind that Cyber Monster 2 is a casual title with all that entails, good or bad.See Videos

Dark Swords is an isometric MMORPG, mainly played through text. The setting is a medieval fantasy world, and there are five races to pick from as well as several weapon types for your character. Beginners can and sometimes do become lost in the vast and detailed game world. Quests, PvP and skills are well-developed, and the developers display a consistent preference for layers of detail so rich that non-hardcore gamers may find them annoying. Pointedly, the graphics are virtually non-existent in this game -- the game could very well function without a graphical interface. Dark Swords doesn’t try to conform to the expectations of the average player, and that’s what makes the game enjoyable to some, but outrageously complicated to others.See Videos

DC Universe Online
DC Universe Online (DCUO) is a superhero-themed MMORPG, set in the DC universe which features heroes such as Batman, Superman, Green Lantern and the Flash. Featuring PvP and PvE game modes, the game sports numerous superheroes with in-depth character customization and fast-paced combat. DCUO is meticulously detailed and has up-to-date graphics. The cutscenes are top notch; so are voice actors and everything else that’s production-related. PvP, although a bit unbalanced, is great in the PS3 version. The PC version runs smoother, but combat is much slicker on the PS3. Upon reaching the level cap, players right now don’t have that much to do, but Sony is hard at work trying to make the game more dynamic with updates (though the DLC packs aren’t free).See Videos

Dead Frontier is a browser-based 3D survival horror MMO, played from an overhead view. The game is set in a post-apocalyptic world with zombies swarming the streets and players doing their best to kill them, either single-handedly or in a team. Players fight for their lives, buy ammo and increase their stats by killing hordes of zombies in a creepy environment where it’s impossible to see two steps ahead. Dead Frontier has much variety, sporting 19 classes and 100+ weapons in an extensive game world. The real fun in this game, arguably, is to be had playing co-op as real people tend to be more fun than the AI. Still there’s no voice chat, but typing while playing is awkward. Some say that Dead Frontier is quite difficult, but once you get the hang of it, this quickly turns out to be untrue. Dead Frontier definitely has some merit: at times it’s genuinely scary and fun, plus it has a great atmosphere and soundtrack with good visuals. However, it just gets too repetitive and easy for players to bother with it after the first few hours.See Videos

Dekaron (aka 2Moons) is a 3D MMORPG developed by Nexon. The background is something of a dark fantasy. Dekaron features seven classes (plus two more upcoming) and two factions. This diversity supplements the PvP-centric gameplay well. The combat arcade style combat requires some skill. Mounts and pets are included; so are siege events and open-world PvP action. Nice if somewhat outdated graphics add to the game’s dark atmosphere. Players can access open areas as well as instanced dungeons. Dekaron is a quality game -- like most Nexon games – in terms of content. Fishing, crafting, PvP and events – there’s certainly a lot to do in Dekaron.See Videos

Dofus is a 2D MMORPG by the French company Ankama Games. It’s set on a colorful, anime-inspired world that’s constantly being updated and expanded upon. Dofus can seem quite complex at first glance, and that’s because it is: there are 15 classes, 22 professions, mounts, dragons, an elaborate crafting system and much more. The turn-based, somewhat restrictive combat also can seem daunting at first, but it quickly turns out to be fun and full of mind-boggling intricacies. The game has a remarkable longevity—the player’s level caps at 200 and then you can share experience with your guild members. The community is vibrant and active, sporting more than 2 million active players, plus there are many incentives to be social, like dungeons, guilds and player shops. As for allowing your kids play Dofus, there are a few cusses here and there, but generally the developers have made it safe for children. Dofus charms from the get go and doesn’t let go—it’s fun, quirky and nothing short of being a treat for the senses. The free-to-play phase is quite restrictive, though, but you may find that it’s worth subscribing.See Videos

Dragon Born is a fantasy MMORPG, played in the browser. There are four classes – Soldier, Ranger, Priest, and Mage. With auto-quest doing pretty much everything in your stead up until you hit 20, you can safely resort to clicking skills buttons during combat or read the quests. If you really want to, because the story is a weird mash-up of Skyrim (probably), WoW, and other titles. The game looks OK, with characters lacking detail, but everything else has pretty colors; the interface is nice, too. All in all, though, Dragon Born struggles to introduce anything new in the genre, but, admittedly, it can serve as a safe haven for casual gaming during work.See Videos

Dragon Eternity (DE) is a browser-based MMORPG set in the fantasy world of Adan. Take your pick from two opposing empires and fight for dominance over the other. Nine professions and three classes, which are chosen in-game by equipping class-suited items, make Dragon Eternity an unusually dynamic game. PvP, the game's most fun aspect, opens up at level four -- such early PvP is uncommon for games like this. Quests are as plentiful as they are repetitive. Players can purchase items that aid in PvP for real money, putting paying players at an advantage. However, PvP events are fun even against the richer players: there are five game modes, including King of the Hill where 3 weaker players compete against a more powerful player. DE is fun if you like non-stop competition, but otherwise it can become somewhat tedious.See Videos

Dragon Fable is a medieval fantasy MMORPG, played in the browser. There are three classes – warrior, mage, and rogue. The graphics are Flash-based, which isn’t a good thing, at least here. However, the game’s strong point is its world -- the Dragon Fable world is ironic and funny, having a laugh at everything, especially the pitfalls of the RPG genre. Quests are also funny at times: has a quest ever asked you to turn over a pit toilet while somebody’s in it? Well, that’s a real quest in Dragon Fable. Even the plot is thrilling once it gets serious. You can also get loads of pets that aid you in combat. There are many opportunities for PvP and PvE, but Dragon Fable does steer towards mindless grinding once you get past level 20 or so.See Videos

Dragon Nest is an MMORPG by Eyedentity games, published by Nexon in NA and Gamigo in Europe. Start your adventure in the fantasy world and follow the immersive story by leveling up and interacting with the hilarious NPCs. Dragon Nest sports six classes with skills that supplement one another in dungeons and parties. The best thing about Dragon Nest is its combat system, featuring intense, skill-based battles that happen in real time. The rest is impeccably polished as well with abundant cinematics, great voice acting and lots of content. The graphics aren't that good but fit the overall tone of the game. In larger battles it can become hard to follow the events on the screen. Both PvP and PvE are well-developed with raids happening often and offering a good way of getting rare items. Dragon Nest, even though released three years ago, is still one of the best MMORPGs in terms of gameplay and especially combat. There are, however, valid complaints that the endgame tends to be overly competitive.See Videos

Dragon Pals is a casual browser-based MMORPG where players get teamed up with a dragon companion. Players choose from three classes – Archer, Warrior and Mage – and level up by participating in events and doing quests. The gameplay is pretty casual, with the player being minimally immersed in the combat. Levels 1-30 are smooth sailing, but after that it does get grind-ish. The real substance, however, of Dragon Pals lies in the community and the awe-inspiring amount of content that the game presents. The community is great, with experienced players sometimes going out their way to help newbies. Dragon Pals also features alchemy, farming, single- and multi-player instances along with guild battles and even an arena. Yes, the lack of in-game support may be annoying; yes, the game might be pay-to-win. But all in all Dragon Pals has so much stuff that it’s worth it, for the early levels at the very least.See Videos

You are given 150 action points per day to complete quests, engage in PVP combat (at the Arena or in the wild), and grind away fighting mosters for xp and dropped loot. DragonSoul is a 3D MMORPG influenced by Asian mythology. There are eight countries and four classes to choose from. Special social features allow players to climb the virtual ladder and, in the end, become DragonSoul champions. Both PvE and PvP are plentiful, combat is fluid and the graphics are nice, especially for the light game client. Class skill trees are more detailed and stand out among those of similar games. There are lots of fun and unique mounts, too. The crafting system is difficult and time-consuming, though. Plus, as the game is still in its beta (which means that many quests, hopefully, aren’t scripted yet), expect grinding, and lots of it. DragonSoul also struggles to introduce anything new to the genre.See Videos

Drakensang is a browser-based MMORPG, reminiscent of Diablo and Neverwinter Nights. The lore is there, but it’s nothing special (an almost forgotten menace – the dragon that nearly destroyed the world – has surfaced again). There are two classes, dragonknight and spellweaver. Drakensang has beautiful graphics, especially for a game played in the browser, and a detailed game world. The game has a spectacular soundtrack which is responsive to what’s happening. The combat doesn’t take much skill, but it’s fun either way; plus, PvP is quite rewarding if you have to click your opponents… a lot. Although Drakensang is not the kind of game that you’d play for years, it’s worth a try if you like crawling through dungeons and hitting left-click relentlessly.See Videos

Dungeon Inquisitor is a create-your-own-dungeon MMO. You assume the role of an evil creature which lures humans into its dungeon. Once captured, humans can be ransomed or interrogated to obtain valuable info (or, if you'd prefer, turned into demon soldiers). Players form alliances, try to attract more valuable human stock using various lures and taking over the human world with their legions of undead. The interface is text-only and takes some getting used to, but the actual game mechanics are unique and thrilling as one has to tinker around to find ways of getting stronger. Especially the interrogation part is a nice touch one would seldom encounter in similar titles. Dungeon Inquisitor seems to be a small project and as such it suffers from a lack of players and from production issues like an interface bursting with copious amounts of text. Still, this dark adventure does a good job of immersing players with alliances, crusades and more.See Videos

Eldevin is a 3D MMORPG, played in the browser. Set in an open, medieval fantasy-themed world, Eldevin sports classless leveling, fantasy lore and an intricate trade system. Eldevin features hundreds of quests and dynamic leveling, which means that in-game decisions influence the path a character can take later on. The game can be overwhelming at first, featuring about 100 skills and six talent trees, but these are introduced only gradually. PvP is instanced with arenas and battlegrounds available to the more competitive; it’s also a real skills test as combat is immersive and strategy-dependent. There are also 14 dungeons that offer plenty of co-op opportunities for the socially minded denizens of Eldevin. Crafting and trading opportunities are plentiful, with the game boasting 14 different professions. For what it’s worth, the story is well-written and the world of Eldevin seems quite sizable, providing an abundance of quest, secret and grinding opportunities. Runescape is the first comparison that comes to mind when discussing Eldevin. Truly, Eldevin, even though a unique and polished game, can and does slip into the genre tropes established by Runescape and its successors. That being said, Eldevin still offers a rather compelling, even if at times tedious journey.See Videos

Ensemble Online (EO) is a sandbox MMORTS with RPG elements. Players start off in a village and gather resources to build their own cabin in the woods; fight monsters to level up; and quest to get all sorts of goodies. The game takes place on a huge real-time map. Now, EO is still very rough around the edges. Patchy animation goes hand in hand with frame rate spikes. Quests are completely botched as you have to provide screenshots to the admins to turn in quests. Gathering materials is slow and building something is even slower. Netcode bugs sometimes leave you stranded a hundred squares from where you want to be, etc. Still the graphics are nice and so is character customization. However, the crucial point is that EO is full of great ideas. Even now there’s a lot of fun to be had in this rather unique blend of the two towering game genres.See Videos

Eternal Saga is a cartoony MMORPG taking place in a world that’s being invaded by demons. Scary, but the cuteness of the graphics kind of balances it out. Three vanilla classes are featured – mage, archer and warrior. Leveling up is really fast, plus the game offers some well-developed sideline activities such as pet keeping and enchanting. Social features are represented as well – guilds, parties and so on. PvP can be done on a guild scale or in the arena. Eternal Saga has quite a few trappings of a casual game, namely auto questing and the relaxed atmosphere, but the game doesn’t play itself and gives players considerable control over combat and other activities. Altogether, this is a perfectly fine casual MMORPG which few will love but fewer still will hate.See Videos
