Nosgoth
Nosgoth is a 3rd person team-based PvP game set in the dark, eponymous world known from the famous games of the Legacy of Kain series, though the lore of the two is connected quite tentatively. Nosgoth revolves around vampires battling humans and vice versa. There are two game modes—deathmatch and point capture—and both are intense and exciting in terms of gameplay. Five classes for each race promise quite a lot of variety, and there are new weapons in the shop too. Vampires are melee fighters, whilst humans fight with ranged weapons. One vampire class can fly and all of them can climb the walls. Human gameplay is much more strategic and co-op oriented. Visuals are nothing short of stunning, and Nosgoth is optimized to run well on any decent machine. Nosgoth is both easy to get into and intricate enough to have players log hundreds of hours still finding something new in each session. Even though balancing and matchmaking issues exist—and of course vampires are more fun to play—Nosgoth serves a thrilling adventure that’s definitely worth sinking your claws into.

Follow the exploits of Luffy and the Straw Hat Pirates in Joygames's One Piece Online 2: Pirate King, their second browser game featuring the popular Japanese manga. Explore the treacherous Grand Line with your very own pirate crew, in search of fame, fortune, and the legendary One Piece. At its core, One Piece Online 2 is a team-building, character collecting browser game with squad combat. It also looks and plays like every other Chinese-developed browser game out there — complete with a cluttered interface, auto-pathing, endless quests and an overwhelming array of bells and whistles. A slowly regenerating stamina bar limits your activities per session, which can be a good or bad thing depending on the player's gaming habits. Combat is turn-based, with a focus on strategic placement of party members and team synergy. Certain skills can be used during battle, so learning when to use them is essential to victory as well. As with most browser games of this caliber, PvP is a central part of the gameplay, so players are more likely to progress towards that endgame. Be prepared to spend cash if you want to participate at the higher tiers of the PvP ladder, though. Overall, One Piece 2: Pirate King is a mostly generic, "same old" browser game painted in the hue of the popular franchise. Fans of the series might find appeal in collecting their favorite characters, forming their "dream" pirate crews, and defeating other players with them. Non-fans, however, might want to steer clear of these waters.

Path of Exile
Path of Exile (PoE) is an action RPG similar to Diablo II. It was pronounced game of the year by Gamespot and RPG of the year by IGN in 2013. PoE is staggeringly simple in terms of gameplay yet amazingly complex as far as the item and skill systems go. Players choose from six classes, unlocking a seventh one after they’ve played the game through on normal difficulty, and rather mold than ‘build’ their character as the game unfolds. The dark and cryptic backstory of the Wraeclast world slips by all but unnoticed while players hack their way through hordes of undead; once you stop to take a breather, however, it hits you with all the jaw-dropping complexity of the world, but the intricate skill system and item-based economy make room for endless variety in terms of how you look and play. Potions regenerate over time, tweaking the already immersive combat a bit further. To top all that, PoE features a cash shop that only houses items that have a cosmetic effect, yet somehow the developers are turning a profit. Definitely try PoE if you’ve heard of Diablo or have played and liked a hack’n’slash title.

Pirate 101
Pirate 101 (P101) is a family-friendly MMORPG by the developers of Wizard 101. It’s set in a colorful and lively steampunk-ish universe that’s similar to the company’s wizard-themed game. After an intro that plots the life story of the player’s character, s/he is plunged into the game, guided by impeccably-voiced, genuinely funny pirates and driven forward through a series of quests. The slowly-paced gameplay consists mostly of wandering, fighting monsters and, the icing of the cake, participating in airship battles. The fights are turn-based, but ship shootouts happen in real time, offering intense thrills but encouraging faster decision-making, not necessarily more thinking. Despite P101’s focus on an audience of children (10+ rating), players of all ages can find something of value here. Parents can control kids’ chat access, but adults have access to 18+ channels. This vibrant game offers many perks, but the cash shop gives a real edge to paying players, and keep in mind that P101 is free only during the opening chapters.

Pirate Crusaders
Crimson Games's Pirate Crusaders is a strategic, fleet building, naval combat browser game set in a medieval fantasy world. Players build and upgrade ships, manage fleets, and even get to occupy an island stronghold. Combat in Pirate Crusaders is tactical and turn-based. Players initiate skirmishes on a grid-based battlefield with the occasional obstacles. Captains can be trained in various skills that can be used to turn the tide of battle. PvE is the main mode of progression, and players can challenge the harder content by teaming up. As the game features two-sided factional PvP, players are given the choice to ally with the pirates or with the navy early on. Siding with a faction allows the player to engage in territorial battles with the opposite side. Other PvP modes, such as arena matches, are available as well. The game's interface is as cluttered as the typical Chinese-developed browser game. Clunky English dialogue and translation errors abound as well. Graphics are dated, and eerily similar to the old Heroes of Might and Magic single player games. The music is a plus, at least, when compared to other browser games out there. No doubt, Pirate Crusaders's main attraction is its large-scale, factional PvP warfare. If you're into that kind of gameplay, then this is the pirate ship game for you. Otherwise, it's best to sail away to bluer seas.

Planetside 2
Planetside 2 is a MMO FPS developed by Sony Online Entertainment. Pick one of three factions and battle for control of the planet Auraxis. The massive battles, which sometimes host up to 600 players at once, will surely amaze you. Numerous vehicles, play styles and classes make the combat very diverse—still, somehow it never gets too chaotic. Co-op is important and adds to the game greatly. Play with your friends if possible as then each battle will become an engaging story. Although player and weapon models might seem generic, the environment is well-detailed and overall the game looks great (an up-to-date computer, however, is required to enjoy Planetside 2 without lag). Considering that games of this quality usually have a retail price, Planetside 2 would be worth playing even if it were ‘pay to win’. But it isn’t, which makes it all the more compelling.

Prime World
Prime World (PW) is a Multiplayer Battle Arena (MOBA) game with castle building elements. Prime World follows the same basic structure of other MOBAs – players’ heroes get pitted against those of their enemies to duke it out and gain the game’s prime resource (called Prime, incidentally), much like in League of Legends or Dota. The game has two clients – a social one that allows players to customize their castle, giving their hero new abilities and gaining resources, and a PvP client that hosts the PvP pits. There are numerous twists to PW that make it different but might also raise an eyebrow: there’s a mini-game played during combat that gives players scrolls; players get bonuses on native terrain (a nice touch really); and characters of opposite sex can give each other bonuses. The actual combat is OK and PW could serve as an entry-level MOBA since no items exist and the game sports a good tutorial.

Developed by Chinese tech titan NetEase and published by My.com, the Russian-owned entertainment company behind Skyforge, Revelation Online is an Asian-themed MMORPG that features massive, flyable, open world, frenetic, action-oriented combat, and a plethora of PvE and PvP options to keep the player engaged. Starting players get to choose from six unique classes and get to fiddle around with their looks using the game's very robust character creator. Combat can be done via traditional tab-targeting, assisted action combat, or a hybrid version of the two. Some classes are best suited for certain combat schemes, so new players should read up before progressing further into the game. The world of Nuanor, Revelation Online's setting, is breathtaking and features stunning vistas and landscapes. Fortunately for the player, they can explore the entirety of this mostly-seamless world with the game's flight system, which becomes available early on. Leveling up in the game is quest-centric, with a heavy focus on daily quests and events. Missing out on these daily activities will slow down the player's progression. Upon level-up, players are awarded points which they can freely allocate to character stats that improve their class in different ways. Gearing up involves a lot of dungeon and raid runs on different difficulty settings. Costuming is present in the game, for those interested in further character customization. Gear crafting, as well as non-combat professions, such as Cooking and Fishing, are also part of the features, allowing for players to increase their character's versatility. Avid "theme-park" MMORPG gamers will find Revelation Online to be a treat when it comes to things to do. PvP is quite robust as well, featuring duels, 3v3 arena battles, battlegrounds, instanced guild wars and persistent castle/territory sieging. There's a cash shop element in the game, which mostly deals with costuming and convenience items. While paying players will see an advantage by purchasing these conveniences, the gap isn't really insurmountable by their non-paying counterpart. Essentially, it will only take the non-paying gamer a longer time to complete certain game milestones compared to the paying kind. Some gamers might be turned off at that prospect, but that's a common system in most F2P games.

Rusty Hearts is an anime-inspired hack and slash MMORPG. There are four classes, along with avatars, which are mere replicas of the opposite sex. The graphics are stylish and blend nicely with players and their actions. The gameplay is fun at first, but can become repetitive, especially in PvE. The game is instance-based, so dungeons and arenas are plentiful. So are social features like character rooms, group quests and guilds. PvP is a real treat with solo modes such as deathmatch, survivor, and team tag for cooperative PvP. The PvP environment also features a ladder system for the competitive-minded. Although the game can become repetitive, it is playable at the very least, and, if you don’t play Rusty Hearts as a single-player game, it can actually be quite rewarding.

SD Gundam Capsule Fighter
40 years after the release of the Mobile Suit Gundam anime, it was merely a matter of time until someone created this game. SD Gundam Capsule Fighter is a MMO third-person-shooter based on the original series. There are over 350 mobile units available in the game. All of them can be customized and upgraded, plus custom Gundam units can be created by combining blueprints. The game sports an engaging, arcade-like combat system which is made a bit more complex by introducing three unit types. Players can battle either in solo quests or massive PvP arenas, with four PvP modes being available in over 50 different locations. The graphics aren’t outstanding but at least have a unique look and keep the game's footprint small. As with many OGPlanet titles a tendency can be seen towards ‘pay to win’ gameplay, but at the very least playing is still fun for non-paying members.

New players start the game by choosing one of the three starter classes. An additional ten classes can be unlocked based on the player's progression. Players can freely switch between available classes, eliminating the need to make multiple alt characters. Progression in Skyforge follows a non-traditional route as there are no levels and experience points. Instead, players improve their character and class by advancing through stat and skill increasing "node grids" similar to that of Path of Exile's skill tree and console game Final Fantasy X's Sphere Grid system. Unlocking these nodes requires resources acquired from quests and dungeons. PvP modes – FFA, Team Deathmatch, Capture the Flag and Payload Race – also reward resources. Equipment is also a big factor, with the best gear dropping in harder instances and raid encounters. A seasoned immortal eventually gains worshippers and temples in their honor, and these provide stat boosts as well. The combination of these elements is the player's Prestige rating, which determines their potential strength and the content they can access. All in all, Skyforge is an enjoyable combat-oriented 3D MMORPG with considerable polish and depth. The graphics and music are a big plus as well, though, sometimes optimization issues abound. The game's weekly resource caps can be a major turn-off to hardcore players, though.

Star Conflict, in a nutshell, can be best described as World of Tanks in space. This space game shares a lot of similarities in game mechanics, features, and progression with the popular tank brawler. If you're familiar with World of Tanks, then you'll feel right at home in Star Conflict. Instead of commandeering tanks from humanity's bygone ages of warfare and destruction, players get to pilot high-tech space-faring battleships... for more warfare and destruction. Players get to choose their faction and sub-faction at the start of the game, which will determine their initial ship choices and starting missions. There's a ton of ship choices, with varying roles in team play, and you'll have to slog through the grind to unlock them and their upgrade modules. Combat is fairly paced and fluid, with multiple PvE and PvP modes providing plenty of gameplay variety. For the more competitive player, there's Guild vs Guild warfare where clanners get to vie for space territory. Like World of Tanks, Star Citizen can get extremely grindy, especially when you're unlocking newer, more advanced ships and upgrades. Some of that grind, you can quickly alleviate by investing in the game's cash shop, if you're willing to sink in some real life moolah.

Swordsman Online
Swordsman Online is a martial arts MMORPG by Perfect World. It features a great variety of classes and a game world based on a popular novel by Louis Cha. Players can customize their character in great depth, and the ten available classes make for an endless variety in character builds (but not looks, sadly). The fun, cutscene-laden story takes the player through the first 25 levels in a breeze. Open-world PvP kicks in at level 30, and there�s quite some discrepancy between the abilities of paying and non-paying members. However, the combat itself is utterly captivating, with guild PvP instances and solo dungeons. Some instances have their stats normalized, encouraging skill-based gameplay�but only to an extent. As for the presentation, Swordsman Online excels with beautiful aesthetics reminiscent of anime/manga. The audio presentation you will love or hate as it features a lot of Chinese traditional music. Swordsman online is definitely a well-polished title. It offers nothing particularly unique, but everything seems just finely executed, especially the combat. The main complaints are related to the open-world PvP and the cash shop, but finding a good guild can mitigate some of these.

TDP4: Team Battle is a 2D MMO shooter that’s played in the browser. The game is Flash-powered with gameplay that’s engrossing and alive, but requires skill at the same time. Played much like a 2D version of Counter-Strike, TDP4: Team Battle sports classic game modes – team death match (TDM), capture the flag (CTF) and death match (DM) – and important extra features like clans and rewards. Although the skill cap is rather high, players are matched by level of play, which make it easy to find opponents at your skill level. Paid features should be less emphasized, though. The game is well-detailed for a Flash production, and offers enough variety to make it fun for more than an evening or two.
