Dungeon Inquisitor is a create-your-own-dungeon MMO. You assume the role of an evil creature which lures humans into its dungeon. Once captured, humans can be ransomed or interrogated to obtain valuable info (or, if you'd prefer, turned into demon soldiers). Players form alliances, try to attract more valuable human stock using various lures and taking over the human world with their legions of undead. The interface is text-only and takes some getting used to, but the actual game mechanics are unique and thrilling as one has to tinker around to find ways of getting stronger. Especially the interrogation part is a nice touch one would seldom encounter in similar titles. Dungeon Inquisitor seems to be a small project and as such it suffers from a lack of players and from production issues like an interface bursting with copious amounts of text. Still, this dark adventure does a good job of immersing players with alliances, crusades and more.

Eldevin
Eldevin is a 3D MMORPG, played in the browser. Set in an open, medieval fantasy-themed world, Eldevin sports classless leveling, fantasy lore and an intricate trade system. Eldevin features hundreds of quests and dynamic leveling, which means that in-game decisions influence the path a character can take later on. The game can be overwhelming at first, featuring about 100 skills and six talent trees, but these are introduced only gradually. PvP is instanced with arenas and battlegrounds available to the more competitive; it’s also a real skills test as combat is immersive and strategy-dependent. There are also 14 dungeons that offer plenty of co-op opportunities for the socially minded denizens of Eldevin. Crafting and trading opportunities are plentiful, with the game boasting 14 different professions. For what it’s worth, the story is well-written and the world of Eldevin seems quite sizable, providing an abundance of quest, secret and grinding opportunities. Runescape is the first comparison that comes to mind when discussing Eldevin. Truly, Eldevin, even though a unique and polished game, can and does slip into the genre tropes established by Runescape and its successors. That being said, Eldevin still offers a rather compelling, even if at times tedious journey.

Ensemble Online
Ensemble Online (EO) is a sandbox MMORTS with RPG elements. Players start off in a village and gather resources to build their own cabin in the woods; fight monsters to level up; and quest to get all sorts of goodies. The game takes place on a huge real-time map. Now, EO is still very rough around the edges. Patchy animation goes hand in hand with frame rate spikes. Quests are completely botched as you have to provide screenshots to the admins to turn in quests. Gathering materials is slow and building something is even slower. Netcode bugs sometimes leave you stranded a hundred squares from where you want to be, etc. Still the graphics are nice and so is character customization. However, the crucial point is that EO is full of great ideas. Even now there’s a lot of fun to be had in this rather unique blend of the two towering game genres.

Eredan is an online card playing game set in the Eredan universe. There are two Eredan titles, and Eredan iTCG is discussed here, not Eredan GT. The game’s lore is not only well-detailed, but engrossing, clever, and ridiculous at times. Eredan has its own huge card deck that players use to compete. There are a number of factions, all of which have unique card decks and racial strengths and weaknesses. The skill level is Elo-based, which makes finding matched opponents a lot easier. A fun tutorial takes you through the basics, and sets you right off to explore the world where there’s certainly a lot to explore.

Eternal Saga is a cartoony MMORPG taking place in a world that’s being invaded by demons. Scary, but the cuteness of the graphics kind of balances it out. Three vanilla classes are featured – mage, archer and warrior. Leveling up is really fast, plus the game offers some well-developed sideline activities such as pet keeping and enchanting. Social features are represented as well – guilds, parties and so on. PvP can be done on a guild scale or in the arena. Eternal Saga has quite a few trappings of a casual game, namely auto questing and the relaxed atmosphere, but the game doesn’t play itself and gives players considerable control over combat and other activities. Altogether, this is a perfectly fine casual MMORPG which few will love but fewer still will hate.

Everquest
EverQuest, the groundbreaking MMORPG developed by Sony Online Entertainment, was first released in 1999 and has since undergone significant changes, including 19 expansions and a gradual shift towards a free-to-play game model. The game boasts an impressive total of 16 classes and 16 races within a continuously expanding game world. The graphics are, naturally, quite outdated (even though they’ve been constantly updated since 1999), but the new, reworked UI sometimes causes complaints. PvP seems off-balance as well, but that’s not what EverQuest is about – as the name implies. There’s a depth to this game few can surpass – the world is full of secrets, and exploring it promises much fun; the PvE is on par with most pay-to-play titles; the community is inviting and helpful. Definitely try it if you consider yourself an RPG lover.

Everquest II
Everquest II is a MMORPG developed by Sony Online Entertainment. It was released back in 2004 and went free-to-play in 2010. The game offers an immersive experience with huge gameplay variety – 20 races and 25 classes to choose from, and expansion packs bring even more variety. The fantasy-themed story, set in a universe parallel to the original EverQuest, flows smoothly and gives the player a sense of direction. NPCs are sometimes elaborately scripted, surprising players in many different ways. The fun crafting system won’t disappoint. Everquest 2 is definitely developed with thoroughness and with care. Although the graphics and animation haven’t aged well, the interface is very convenient and the soundtrack leaves no more do be desired. Combat lacks in speed, but PvE and general gameplay doesn’t disappoint with about 6000 quests available to those who have unlocked the whole game world with a subscription. Definitely a must-try for any MMORPG fan.

There are dozens of skills unique to the game like pickpocketing, invisibility (stealth), mana-stealing, telekinesis, and more. Characters can store tamed animals in a zoo. Classic and simplistic graphics with no lag. Beware: There are no safe hiding spots from monsters. Player killing is allowed after level fifteen but be wary as your character may be jailed for it. The world of Eremos is one of endless strife and conquest. The Felspire looms at the center of this ravaged land, acting as a gateway to the demonic underworld. Many wars have been waged over this mysterious tower, and to this day, demons still emerge from its labyrinthine catacombs. It is now up to brave adventurers like you to solve the mysteries of the Felspire and finally end the demonic invasion once and for all. 37Games's Felspire looks and plays like the typical, haphazardly-developed browser game cluttering the Internet nowadays. Standard browser game features like automated pathing and combat are present, along with the complementary cluttered user interface. Felspire stands apart from the bunch somewhat by featuring an "automated character progression system" that eliminates the usual grinding. After reaching a certain point in the game, players will be able to turn on the "AFK Helper" feature that will complete quests for the player whenever they're inactive. With grinding out of the way, players will have more time to devote to the game's many co-op dungeons and various PvP/GvG offerings. Competitive PvP will likely require a substantial cash investment if the player wants to participate at the highest tiers. Aside from the "automated progression system", there's nothing new or unique in Felspire. Generic fantasy, with generic gameplay and progression systems, and generic graphics and music. With the game leaning very heavily on automated gameplay, it makes one wonder: "Am I playing the game, or is the game playing me?"

Fortuna is an MMORTS developed by Perfect World Entertainment. Players build their cities, recruit troops and manage resources to become the best in the world, which is based on medieval Europe. Although combat cannot be controlled, players have to prepare troops for deployment and manage their generals wisely. The game is pretty interesting in the beginning, mostly because the story unfolds quite masterfully. Mid-game is dedicated to finding a good alliance and learning PvP, but in the late game players inadvertently find themselves without much to do. While Fortuna has its good moments, it simply lacks engaging features to keep the players’ attention. Plus you might get a quite valid feeling that the game doesn’t do justice to non-paying members.

Game of Thrones: Ascent
Game of Thrones is a Facebook strategy game set in the 'A Song of Ice and Fire' universe from George R. R. Martin’s book series. The player becomes a noble and swears fealty to one of the four houses from the book, and, my, the game lore is well developed indeed, with Tyrion Lannister being of course the wittiest advisor there is. Players build their encampments and progress through missions using Sworn Swords. There’s a reasonably complex skill system that depends on the player’s house, and players are free to branch out towards being either a ‘modern’ or a ‘truthful’ knight. Despite the fact that Game of Thrones is highly detailed, it certainly isn’t perfect: the social system adds some level of competition to the game, but that’s not enough to keep players interested in the long run. Plus, as in many such games, there’s the problem with building times that slowly become unbearably long.

Game of War: Fire Age
Game of War: Fire Age is a massively multiplayer mobile 2D game cut in the same cloth as Clash of Clans and Vikings: War of Clans. It's a base-building, empire-builder strategy game that's solely tilted to cooperative PvP. A mythical ancient Greece is the setting for this game, so expect similarly themed structures, units, and heroes from the period. The usual hallmarks of empire-builder games are present in Game of War: Fire Age. Players build structures, train troops, and wage wars against neighboring players. There's a hero customization system, equipment crafting mechanics and of course, an alliance system that facilitates massive team versus team warfare. War-loving gamers will feel right at home in this game. Like most free-to-play empire strategy titles, Game of War: Fire Age is a "love it or hate it" affair. It will ultimately require players to spend some cash to be truly competitive in the game. The game's alliance and PvP-centric gameplay might not appeal to solo and casual players, but strategy and war-freaks will enjoy what the game has to offer - provided they're willing to invest some moolah in it.

In the end, though, the most important thing is your army, and that’s why it’s safe to say that Golden Age is at its core a strategy game – and it’s surprisingly fun for such an unconventional genre amalgam.

Goodgame Empire is a browser-based MMO strategy game. Players progress through the story, manage their castle’s resources and expand its walls. The game boasts vibrant and colorful graphics, but the user interface can become quite unresponsive when there are lots of things on the screen. It’s pretty generic so far as MMO strategies go, but multiplayer features are where Goodgame Empire stands out. Forming alliances, declaring wars and gaining honor by attacking other players are the best things about this game. Furthermore, players can abstain from spending real money on the game altogether: it does punish you for that in the endgame, but playing can be quite enjoyable for non-paying members as well.
